00:00Last night, once-quiet creeks were turned into raging torrents of water as over a foot of rain fell across areas of western South Carolina.
00:10Right behind me is Robert's Swamp, which is nothing more than just a small creek.
00:15But as you can see right here, multiple sections of the roadway were taken out as a raging torrent of water came blasting through this area.
00:24This whole area was just in a severe drought, and obviously that has been gut-punched by this tremendous amount of rainfall going from one extreme to another
00:34as the southeast, including the Carolinas, continue to get hammered by round after round of historically heavy rain.
00:43Now, there was water rescues earlier this morning from this same creek on a different section of roadway.
00:49The water had washed away the road, and a motorist couldn't see where that roadway was washed out and went careening into the water and drifted off.
00:58But thankfully, rescue crews were able to get a handle on the situation and get the gentleman extracted from his vehicle.
01:04This has been just one of many instances of washed-out roads and high water across South Carolina and Georgia this evening.
01:12We're going to be covering it for the next several days here at AccuWeather.
01:15I'm Aaron Rigsby.
