00:00Jumbo Mark Holmes Football Academy presents a story of hope and inspiration.
00:06Welcome on board as I take you through a journey to Africa from the comfort of your home.
00:11This video is about the impact the Mark Holmes Football Academy
00:15has had here in Kenya in the lives of children and the community.
00:21My name is Georges Opel, the director and founder of the Mark Holmes Football Academy
00:27here in Kenya through the partnership of the Mark Holmes Football Academy in Scotland.
00:35Our academy involves children from different age categories,
00:39from the under 10, under 12, under 14 and under 17.
00:44Recently we have come up with a senior team which we plan to register
00:50in one of our national leagues here in Kenya.
00:54I am on a journey to meet Mr. Joseph Kuria, a director at one of our partner schools
01:03where a majority of our players at the Mark Holmes Football Academy in Kenya
01:08have been given an opportunity to study and also access quality education.
01:15The majority of them come from poor backgrounds and others are orphans
01:20and cannot access education.
01:23And this prompted Mark Holmes Football Academy in Kenya to partner with the schools
01:29to offer education to these children whose future is bright.
01:38This is Joseph Kuria, the director of River Jordan Academy.
01:43God has been faithful.
01:46I would like to take this time to thank Mark Holmes Football Academy Kenya
01:55and through this organisation we have been able to benefit a lot
02:03because currently the organisation, we have been able to maintain and retain
02:10some of the learners in the school because here we have learners from different backgrounds.
02:16There are those who come from very humble backgrounds
02:19and some are not even able to raise school fees,
02:23others are not able even to get three meals per day.
02:27So they end up relying on whatever we provided in school
02:31and so far we can say that Mark Holmes Football Academy has been supporting us
02:39in terms of making sure that our learners are able to stay in school,
02:45they are able to be sustained in school so that at least they can achieve their academic goals.
02:51The organisation has been supporting us, we have been having a high number of learners
02:57such that our space is too squeezed, the learners are very congested
03:02and we are not able to accommodate more.
03:06Yet there are more learners who are willing to join our school,
03:10purchased and incorporated in our school compound so that at least we can admit more learners
03:18since there are more who want to join us.
03:21On the other hand we also have limited resources.
03:25If you take the ratio at which we have the number of students against what we have in the compound,
03:33you find that our facilities were supposed to handle less than 50 learners
03:39but currently we are having over 300 learners.
03:42So you find that the resources that are there are too minimal compared to the population of the school.
03:49And in fact the population has grown due to the fact that the Mark Holmes Football Academy
03:55has been supporting us and we believe we will be able to get even better and better.
04:01So we will do better than what we have done so far.
04:04So I know that there are good people out there who can come in and help us do this.
04:12Another challenge is about the sporting activity.
04:15When it comes to sporting you find that our learners are not able to get even the uniform,
04:21the games kits, the soccer shoes, they are not able to get them.
04:29The uniforms, the cones, the nets, the balls themselves.
04:34The school is not in a position at least to get enough balls.
04:40And therefore getting one or two from Mark Holmes Football Academy.
04:45Welcome to Yuba Children's Academy.
04:48Welcome to Yuba Children's Academy.
04:50I'm Marlene Bajek, a sports teacher.
04:52We believe that we can go far together as a teacher and a teacher community.
04:58And these are the following challenges we face.

05:49I thank you, Mark Holmes Football Academy,
05:52for giving us this opportunity to do education and sports.
05:56I would like to express some of the challenges that our students are going through.
06:00First is lack of school fees.
06:03Some of the students are not able to pay their school fees.
06:06They do not come to school because of lack of school fees.
06:09The second challenge is to our girls.
06:11Our girls do not have sanitary jars.
06:14Some of them come from humble backgrounds.
06:17Hence, their parents are not able to buy sanitary jars for them.
06:23My name is Joseph.
06:26I've been coming around to see young boys training in France.
06:33Mark Holmes Football Academy also offers mentorship
06:37after every training session to the children and youth in our program.
06:41This is to create awareness, education, and counseling
06:44on social issues and challenges that affect the youth,
06:48like drugs, crime, alienation...
