In his career, Vishwanath scored 6,080 runs in 91 Test matches at an average of 41.93, including 14 centuries and 35 half-centuries. Known for his sportsmanship and grace on the field, he often saved India from difficult situations, notably in matches against strong teams like England and the West Indies. His 97 not out against the West Indies in 1974 is still regarded as one of the greatest innings in cricket history.

Gundappa Vishwanath is widely celebrated as one of India's finest batsmen, known for his elegant and technically sound batting style. Playing international cricket from 1969 to 1983, Vishwanath left a lasting legacy with his artistic shot-making and his exceptional ability to perform under pressure. Standing at just 5 feet 3 inches, he defied physical limitations with his timing and wristy strokes, particularly his square cuts and delicate flicks, which were a delight to watch.
