Pupils say why Remembrance Day is important to them, November 11, 2024
Transcript
00:00I think it's important to remember those who have honoured the country and have done a great job in the armed forces and their family
00:12because they played an important role and life wouldn't be as it is today if they hadn't.
00:19First, we need to remember those who went in the wars to help us and save our country.
00:34So I think it's important because we have to remember those who fought for our country and died fighting for our country.
00:43It's really important to remember them just for their service and the vital role they played and their families.
00:50The children across our school, all 440 of them, have made an individual poppy each that they planted this morning
00:59out in what we're calling our poppy field out at the front of school.
01:02So the children will be joining us out at the front of school close to 11 o'clock, the entire school,
01:08along with their parents and their carers and some people from the local community that maybe have no links to the school
01:14to join us in our act of remembrance.
01:17Yes, the children thoroughly enjoy the event. They bring in their bottles so that they can paint them and create the poppies.
01:24The teachers help them and then we come out first thing on the 11th and we plant them.
01:29We had a special assembly this morning by Mr Burnside where they are given a wee bit more information about Remembrance Day
01:37and they thoroughly enjoyed that as well. They're very used to coming into the assembly so when they come out to events like this
01:43they know how to behave, they're very respectful and very kind.
