00:00Gavin, 4-0 defeat against a powerful Uxbridge side, what are your thoughts on that?
00:07I said to the boys in there that I can't blame them for what happened. I think we got beat by a team that's way better than what we've got in terms of quality, experience.
00:19And listen, they deservedly won 4-0 and it probably could have been more. We were nowhere near the level today.
00:27Which is disappointing because I think the last three games against Southall, Moneyfields and South Park, although we picked up one point which isn't good enough, I felt we were well in those games.
00:37We're competitive and probably should have, with a little bit more quality, probably could have won the games.
00:45And today, listen, they're levels above us. It was very evident. Physicality, aggression, just know-how. So I can't really fault them.
00:55We can look at the quality they provided on the day because the simple things in football they couldn't even do.
01:00They couldn't even kick a ball properly, couldn't turn the other team even to get us up the pitch.
01:04So yeah, it was one of them where we've got to accept that that is where we're at and a team like that, if they turn up and put in a performance, is going to beat us.
01:15Which I don't want to sound defeatist, but that's how I feel after today because we were nowhere near that level and it almost looked like a Step 5 team playing a Step 4 team.
01:24Which is disappointing, but like I say, we look at the three games before that and I'm like, we did well, but we didn't get anything out of it.
01:33So we need to be realistic with the group of where they're at, what they compete against.
01:40Are we going to go and beat Farnham? Are we going to go and beat Kingston? Are we going to beat Uxbridge?
01:45They've got better players than us. So realistically, would I have liked us to have been more competitive? Yes.
01:54And I'd like to have shown a little bit more quality about what we could do, but it just wasn't there today.
02:00Again, you've got to give them credit because they didn't let us do anything and the boys almost just, it was a little bit too much for them today.
02:11You knew obviously Uxbridge had that sort of power and experience and we're going to bring that.
02:17And so you haven't been outplayed often this season.
02:22No, listen, they weren't even overly physical. It was just knowing the game, being front foot and just knowing how to play the game properly
02:31and being that one step ahead and being cleverer, more intelligent. And that's why a lot of them have played at a higher level.
02:37So yeah, we've got to take it on the chin. It's not nice and the boys will be pretty down and I know they've got good quality,
02:46but that quality wasn't enough today to get anything. And I don't think if we played them again, it would be the same result.
02:53Obviously a tough day, but Frim Lagreen and the Aldershot Senior Cup, is that a good opportunity to sort of quickly or not really?
02:58Not really, because I know they've got good quality and they've got players who have played a better level than our players or the same level.
03:06So they're not mugs, you know, and they've got good quality and they will know and they will get in our face and they'll probably do the similar,
03:14they'll just be competitive, you know, they're not going to let us go there and pass the ball around.
03:20So it'll be up to us to turn up and show that we are a good side.
03:26And you know, it won't be easy. It's not going to be an easy game. So we'll look forward to that.
03:32And then, yeah, the Moneyfields performance and the South Park performance,
03:36presumably you want to tap back into that obviously then on Tuesday and then Saturday with Sutton Common,
03:41presumably that's what you're looking for.
03:43Yeah, I mean, the Moneyfields was excellent. I can't even look at that and say we were the better team, if I'm honest.
03:50Should have won, didn't win. South Park, again, neither team really.
03:54For me, they didn't show any qualities where I thought, oh God, we're way out of our depth here.
03:59And we didn't deserve to win. I told you that the other day, we didn't deserve to win.
04:04But equally, I didn't think they did enough to warrant being, to winning the game.
04:10If we had drawn, it would have been fair enough.
04:14Yeah, it's just, it's just hard, mate, to take that because it is, you want to be really competitive and go out there and win.
04:20And then when you come up against teams like that who are on it and, you know, we just found it really difficult.
04:26Yeah, yeah. Alex went off in the first half.
04:28Yeah, nightmare. And I've got to be honest, everything at the minute just seems to be,
04:33whenever we think we get someone in, something goes against us.
04:37I mean, I don't know what he's done, but he reckons he's had a crack.
04:39So that could be him out for a good period of time, which we've brought him in for that little bit of experience.
04:44And he's settled in well and he's a good football player.
04:47Again, he's one of the players who can clear the ball down the pitch properly.
04:50So we didn't, to lose him in the first half here is a bit hard, I think, because we were light anyway.
04:57So, yeah, that don't look good for him. He's gone to the hospital, I think, to get checked out.
05:02And injury-wise, going forwards, what's the...
05:06Well, Jeremy at the minute is working. He's got a new job. He can't commit to anything.
05:11Joe Lewis-Evans has been sent to Winchester at the moment.
05:15He trained with them Thursday with the hopes that he's going to go Step 3, which is disappointing.
05:21Obviously, I get it, but he's in the last three games, he's been excellent.
05:26Alex is obviously going to be out now.
05:29Trying to think here, Jack's come back, could only do half hour today on advice from Slough.
05:36Who else are we missing?
05:38Lambert's obviously going to be suspended from next week. Jaheim's pulled his groin.
05:43It's just...
05:46Every club has it, but in the minute, you can cope with it if you're winning.
05:50And you can cope with it, but the minute I feel we need everyone available, everyone fit.
05:56We have to play 8 out of 10s. We have to catch a team on a bad day.
06:00And even then, we get in a draw. So it's tough.
06:05That's the way it seems to be, and it's quite... I'm trying not to get down about it.
06:09Obviously, we want to do well, but that's how it feels at the minute.
06:13That's what's needed, and it's still not guaranteed that we're going to get anything.
06:18Football can be highs and lows, and sometimes when there's a low, you've just got to battle through it and keep battling.
06:23It's a lot of lows. I think this is the worst period I've had since when me and Dave took over 10 years ago.
06:32I think we had one period where we lost six in a row, and that was pretty tough.
06:37But it was at a level that I didn't feel was... This level's hard for us at the minute.
06:44As a squad, it's been very tough. So to get a win is even harder now.
06:50So just Tuesday then, full focus on that.
06:55Yeah, we've just got to keep plugging away.
06:58We've got to keep trying to turn the corner, and it might happen, it might not.
07:03You never know with football. I'd like to think that at some point, it will happen.
07:07I do think these last three weeks, we've sort of done that without getting a result.
