Love Your Local: Favourite spots for food and drink across Glasgow

We took to Sauchiehall Street to hear about Glaswegians favourite independent places in the city.

00:00For coffee I like, there's a coffee shop called Perch and Rest in Otego Street that I really like.

00:05And there's a chain that not many people know is purely Glaswegian called Tinderbox,

00:09but that's Glasgow owned and sells Glasgow coffee, so yeah, I like those two.

00:13There's obviously loads of good ones, but my favourite one is the Park Bar out Finistoun.

00:18I usually go there on a Friday night with my mates, we all support Ross County.

00:22There's loads of Keighley music, we're all from up north, so yeah, we like that type of thing.

00:26Either the Concert Hall Café or the Mitchell Library Café, and I find it's economic,

00:32and I just want you to go anywhere else and pay twice the price.

00:36So, you know, there's a sense of community that I really like.

00:39Pubs, I drink in the Doublet occasionally in the West End.

00:43Or if I'm looking to go upmarket, I would go to Fraser's and have a coffee in Nero, the Café Nero,

00:49and I would pay twice the normal price for that.

00:52And the pot still in town is locally owned as well, so those two I like, yeah.

00:56Well, I'm from the West End of Glasgow, but I tend to be in the West End all the time.

01:03Are there any places in the West End where you're...

01:06Probably, is it Ashton Lane? Somewhere along there, there's one or two hostelries,

01:13or on Byers Road there are one or two cafés that I would frequent,

01:17or the Tinderbox, the corner of Hindland Road.

01:20I just prefer the personal touch. I like the fact that I'm supporting business.

01:23The fact that the money's not going to some massive corporation.

01:26The fact that they're here and they're paying tax is a huge part for me.

01:30I mean, that's true of retail for me as well.

01:33They're a bit more expensive as coffees go, but they're fine.

01:36And their pastries and their buns are reasonably priced.

01:41So it's all good Glasgow stuff.

01:43I wouldn't drink in Starbucks, for instance, because they just don't pay tax here.

01:47I try and avoid Amazon, that sort of thing.

01:49I think it's important to support locally owned businesses and support the community, really.

01:53It's not very independently owned, but I do like walkabout.

01:57You know, cheap wings, can't go wrong.
