00:00China is once again asserting its claim over parts of the West Philippine Sea, which it calls Wangyangdao.
00:08This comes in response to the recent Philippine laws that reinforce the country's maritime rights.
00:13In turn, the government has firmly defended its actions, citing international law and a favorable ruling from the Permanent Court of Arbitration.

00:26China continues to assert its claim over parts of the West Philippine Sea.
00:31In a statement from China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, their government released the baselines and base points of what they claim is their territorial sea adjacent to Scarborough Shoal, which they call Wangyangdao.
00:45China issued this statement a few days after the Philippine Maritime Zones Act and Philippine Archipelagic Sea Lanes Act were enacted.
00:54Also voicing their opposition to these laws.
00:58The Philippine ambassador to Beijing was even summoned in protest.
01:02In response, the National Security Council stated, China has no reason to protest as these laws comply with international law.
01:12They have the Law of China on the Territorial Sea and Contingent Zones. If they have a law, why don't we have one?
01:19The People's Republic of China has nothing to do with us because we don't violate any international law here.
01:26According to the NSC, the Philippines only strengthened its rights over waters under the two laws signed by President Ferdinand Arap Marcos Jr.
01:36Whatever is in accordance with international law, in accordance with UNCLOS, and whatever we won in the Permanent Court of Arbitration, it is in accordance with these two laws.
01:47The laws will take effect after submission to the International Maritime Organization.
01:53A new map of the Philippines is up for release by the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority or NAMLIA.
