00:00Oh my god, this is so good. I haven't had bread since I was like nine.
00:03Are you serious?
00:04How do you think I got these abs?
00:05Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the comedy
00:10movies that we thought would be forgettable, but years after their release, we can't stop watching.
00:15Let the gun do the talking.
00:16Okay, on your knees, hands in the air, heads on the ground, eyes closed.
00:21That's it.
00:23Number 10. Blockers.
00:26Blockers sounded like an outright disaster. It's a sex comedy, which aren't often critical
00:31darlings. That's what trying things is for, to teach you things. It's contradiction.
00:35It was directed by a writer-producer making her directorial debut, so things were likely
00:40to be rough around the edges. It starred John Cena, which seemed more like a meme than anything
00:45else. And even the title itself is derived from a dirty term. But the movie ended up being adored,
00:50not only for its humor, but also for its themes and tone.
00:54What about a little chugging contest?
00:58Yeah, bring it.
01:00It flipped the teen sex comedy on its head by focusing on the parents,
01:03and it treats the characters with empathy and respect, lending the story an undeniable
01:08sweetness. These are people, not caricatures, and that is all too rare within the genre.
01:13It was just really nice what you said. It's good.
01:17They mean it.
01:18Thanks. I feel like Phil Jackson when he was coaching the Bulls.
01:24Number 9. Good Boys
01:26My neighbor is a total nymphomaniac. Her boyfriend's always over.
01:30She starts fires?
01:32No, that's a pyromaniac. She's a nymphomaniac. Someone who has sex on land and sea.
01:37On paper, a film about three middle school boys replacing a drone and going to a party
01:42doesn't seem like it has much going for it. However, Good Boys proved that a simple premise
01:47doesn't have to drag the final product down whatsoever. Equal parts chaotic misadventures
01:52and heartwarming moments, it ended up being a touching story about growing up and apart
01:57from childhood friends. While adults' writing for kids can often come across as out of touch,
02:02the dialogue and modern references were both handled perfectly, creating the ultimate Gen Z
02:07coming-of-age flick. Between drug deals gone wrong and adult situations being seen through
02:12the eyes of innocent kids, Good Boys hits a perfect sweet spot between wholesome and hysterical.
02:18Put it back. I'm being generous today.
02:22We also have drugs.
02:25He was onto us.
02:26Number 8. Girls Trip
02:28Deaf direction and a strong cast can turn a standard comedic premise into a really good movie.
02:34Flossy, flossy, flossy, flossy, flossy, flossy, flossy, flossy, flossy, flossy, flossy, flossy, flossy, flossy, flossy, flossy, flossy, flossy, flossy, flossy, flossy, flossy.
02:38And as premises go, a group of friends going on a road trip is about as standard
02:42as you can get. But Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Tiffany Haddish,
02:46and Jada Pinkett-Smith made their characters believable and fresh.
02:50I'mma be cool, I'mma be cool. I just wanna say hi, that's all.
02:54I'mma just say hello.
02:55No, no, no, don't you say hello. No, Deena, don't do that. Remember,
02:59Ryan said this is her life, we shouldn't get involved.
03:01With Haddish stealing the show as the hilarious Dina.
03:09Their friendship felt so real that audiences were only too happy to laugh along with them,
03:13and Girl's Trip was a huge critical and commercial success.
03:17The result?
03:18A trip that's surprisingly fun to take.
03:20Look, I get it.
03:21You're upset.
03:22I shouldn't be throwing things in a place of work.
03:26Why are you making air quotes?
03:27This is a place of work.
03:28Lesson learned.
03:30Wow, you're so understanding.
03:31Number 7.
03:32Hot Tub Time Machine.
03:34Thanks to that silly title, audiences knew exactly what they were getting into.
03:38Check it out.
03:39They must have fixed it.
03:41Come on!
03:42This sounded like just another goofy guy comedy that would come and go without much fanfare.
03:48Even the lead billing of John Cusack seemed questionable, as he's not really the type
03:52of actor audiences would expect to lead a movie like this.
03:55You know, it's not always about my emotional journey, it could be about yours.
03:58But the script was surprisingly dexterous and intelligent, using its main characters
04:02as targets of satire.
04:04The characters were also far richer than anyone thought they would be.
04:08Everyone was well cast, and the sci-fi flick often leaned into its own ridiculousness.
04:11Hurry up!
04:12I can see the 90s!
04:14These aren't things viewers typically see in a gross-out comedy such as this, and it
04:17took critics and audiences by surprise.
04:20Loser!
04:21Hey, John Lennon gets shot!
04:23Wait, that already happened?
04:25Number 6.
04:26Spy.
04:27The spy genre is one of the most easily spoofed.
04:30As such, audiences have been given countless spy parodies throughout the years, with seemingly
04:34diminishing returns.
04:35Oh God, he went into a building.
04:36Okay, well, well done.
04:37That's it.
04:38Time to call it a day.
04:39But the winning magic of Paul Feig and Melissa McCarthy resulted in what is arguably the
04:46freshest and funniest spy spoof in recent memory.
04:49That's exactly what I was thinking.
04:51Much of the praise stems from Feig's writing-directing and McCarthy's lead performance, but much
04:56can also be said for the supporting roles.
04:58You've got a big night ahead of us.
04:59Don't be afraid to clean yourself up, Amber.
05:00Take a shower is what I'm saying.
05:03Rose Byrne's comedic timing and line delivery are spot on, and Jason Statham provides a
05:09self-aware performance that was gleefully outlandish and surprisingly hilarious.
05:14Spy made the spoof genre funny again.
05:16I drove a car off a freeway on top of a train while I was on fire.
05:21Not the car.
05:22I was on fire.
05:23Jesus, you're intense.
05:26Number 5.
05:27Game night.
05:28Guys, this is Madison.
05:29Yeah, you brought her last week.
05:31You work at Forever 21, right?
05:33No, no.
05:34I work at Sephora.
05:35I'm confused.
05:36Different girl.
05:37Same look, same voice.
05:38Nice to meet you.
05:39You too.
05:40What's yours?
05:41That's a...
05:42No, I think you're supposed to kiss it, right?
05:48Welcome.
05:49The premise seems simple.
05:50A competitive couple participate in a game night with their friends, and unusual hijinks
05:55ensue.
05:56Despite sounding like a cookie-cutter comedy, this 2018 film is far from it.
06:01Instead, the team behind horrible bosses delivers enough twists and turns to keep the audience
06:05constantly guessing.
06:06We've got to capture this moment, honey.
06:08Get in there.
06:09We'll take a quick little selfie here.
06:11The charismatic ensemble cast manages the difficult trick of keeping viewers on the
06:15edge of their seats while also making them laugh.
06:17With popular party games incorporated into the characters' attempts to foil a kidnapping,
06:22this is genuinely a game night to remember.
06:26Turn.
06:27Turn, turn, turn.
06:28Turn.
06:29On.
06:30Turn on.
06:31Turn.
06:32On what?
06:33Turn on what?
06:34Number four.
06:35Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle.
06:36Cake is my weakness, along with speed and strength.
06:41Huh.
06:42Strength is my weakness.
06:43Hey, can I...
06:44Quick question.
06:45How is strength my weakness?
06:48The original Jumanji starring Robin Williams is a classic, so audiences could have been
06:52forgiving for viewing this belated sequel with trepidation, but with a fresh modern
06:57twist on the premise, it was a surprisingly fun and side-splitting movie.
07:02While in 1995's Jumanji, a brother and sister get sucked into a board game, Welcome to the
07:06Jungle puts an entirely new cast inside a video game instead.
07:11Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Karen Gillan, and Kevin Hart all give great performances,
07:16and the fast-paced comedic action really works.
07:19It's since spawned a sequel of its own and is poised to become a franchise.
07:23Come on, lads!
07:28Oh, my water's so slow!
07:29Number three.
07:30Paddington.
07:31My body had traveled very fast, but my heart, she took a little longer to arrive.
07:39This ended up being the very definition of not judging a book by its cover, or in this
07:43case, a movie by its trailer.
07:46When Paddington was first announced, many assumed it would end up like others focused
07:50around CGI animals, largely forgettable.
07:53The promotions didn't help either, as they focused on physical comedy rather than jokes.
07:58However, Paddington ended up defying all preconceived notions.
08:02The quips were charming and wholesome, and the human cast played perfectly off the animated
08:08bear.
08:09While it's undoubtedly made for children, the plot wasn't dumbed down in the slightest,
08:13which led to adults enjoying it.
08:16Paddington serves as proof that just because something is made for kids doesn't mean it
08:19can't be funny as well.
08:20I will never be like other people, but that's all right, because I'm a bear.
08:26A bear called Paddington.
08:30Number two.
08:31Bridesmaids.
08:32Bridesmaids was a monumental success, effortlessly crossing demographics and grossing nearly
08:37$300 million worldwide.
08:40The movie could be enjoyed by anyone, as it deftly mixed seemingly disparate genres.
08:44I don't know what to say.
08:46You look...
08:47Megan, are you okay?
08:50It was a raunchy comedy, a sentimental chick flick, and a touching buddy story, with each
08:55aspect given equal importance.
08:57It wasn't just a gross-out comedy with women, as it was so often billed.
09:01Help me, I'm poor.
09:02It was also an intelligently written and wonderfully performed film that took an honest look at
09:07its characters' lives and situations, crafting rich and mature themes amongst all the farting,
09:12puking, and pooping.
09:13Well, you're really doing it, aren't you?
09:15You're just shitting in the street.
09:16It also helped launch Melissa McCarthy's comedy career, which led to future Feig-Marthie collabs
09:21like The Heat and Spy.
09:22Life is gonna end life and I'm gonna bite you in the ass.

09:43Number 1.
09:4421 Jump Street
09:45Chore time!
09:46Mom!
09:47We don't have time for chores right now!
09:48If you stay in this house, you have time for chores!
09:53Mom!
09:54Turning an old TV show into a big-screen action comedy has been done so many times that it's
09:58almost about as commonplace as, well, the undercover cop trope.
10:02Phil Lord and Christopher Miller's adaptation of 21 Jump Street involves both those things,
10:07yet it turned out to be incredibly entertaining, in no small part thanks to the on-screen chemistry
10:12between Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum.
10:23It also had solid character development, just the right amount of self-referential humor,
10:28and one hell of a comedy and action-packed limo chase.
10:32In fact, the movie was such a hit that it spawned a solid sequel and almost a Men in
10:36Black crossover.
10:43Which comedy movie do you find the most rewatchable?
