A look at the latest on the new head coach.
Transcript
00:00Michael, looking at Manchester United and obviously Ruben Amorim coming in.
00:04Van Nistrooy, you know, relieved of his duties now as well, quite an emotional farewell at Old Trafford, it seemed.
00:10You know, I saw a few number of older fans who clearly saw him when he was in his pump for Manchester United.
00:16So it's quite emotional for them.
00:18But a new sort of era starting now again.
00:22What's the sort of latest update you can give us and any Manchester United fans who are eager to know?
00:28Well, firstly, I will take offence at the thought that it's older fans who can remember Ruben Amorim in his pump.
00:33Because I can certainly remember Ruben Amorim banging in plenty of goals when I was younger.
00:37So, yeah, no, so look, it's been a very funny couple of weeks at United.
00:41Obviously, with Eric ten Haag leaving, Ruben Amorim coming in for those four games.
00:45I think it refreshed the squad a little bit.
00:47It feels a lot happier camp now than it does even two, three weeks ago under ten Haag.
00:53Feels a bit more rejuvenated.
00:54I think he's handing over a happier team, I suppose, to Amorim.
00:58He had his final game against Leicester on Sunday.
01:01He spoke quite openly.
01:02He said that he wanted to be involved in Amorim's coaching staff.
01:05There's been no details released of whose decision it was for him to move on.
01:10Was it Van Nistelrooy's himself?
01:11Was it Ruben Amorim?
01:12But he was confirmed on Monday, has departed the club now with United's full thanks.
01:17And I think there's a real appreciation of the job that he did and also how he handled himself as well.
01:22I think that he didn't make it difficult for the club.
01:24So, he's departed along with three other members of Eric ten Haag's coaching staff.
01:30I think there could certainly be questions asked about the fact that of the four members of staff who have left,
01:37three were appointed in the summer.
01:38Was that the wisest thinking of United to not have to pay off their release clause and everything?
01:44So, probably not the best decision from them.
01:46But that's not the first time people have said that.
01:50So, yes, out with the old, in with the new.
01:52Ruben Amorim is in.
01:53He is now officially Manchester United head coach, not manager.
01:56That's an important thing to say.
01:58But he's come in.
01:59He was recording this on Tuesday morning.
02:01He's been in at Carrington.
02:02He has spoken with club executives, was seen with Omar Barada, Jason Wilcox, Dan Ashworth.
02:09Lots of photo opportunities.
02:13No real details as such on what he's got up to.
02:15But we do know because at the moment he hasn't actually been granted his visa.
02:19Now, there's a couple of reports on Sunday night which reported it as the protests have been delayed slightly.
02:25And I think United were a little bit disappointed with some of those reports.
02:28I don't think they feel that this is actually a pretty normal standard case, really,
02:32that when you get big arrivals coming from abroad, they travel over, can do certain things.
02:40For instance, Amorim can have meetings and can speak to people at the club.
02:43But he can't take training sessions yet until he is officially the head coach.
02:48It was likened to me that players can sign, they can complete their medicals,
02:53but they can't actually play until they've got their visas.
02:55So Amorim at the moment doesn't have his visa.
02:57But it certainly won't be an issue from United's perspective.
02:59And that will be sorted probably in the next couple of days.
03:02And, yeah, so he's in now.
03:03And we'll have to just see what comes over the next couple of weeks.
03:06I suspect we'll have some form of media briefing, some form of unveiling.
03:09He'll obviously speak ahead of the Ipswich game, which is not this weekend,
03:13but the international games, but the following weekend, so the 24th of November.
03:17And it's going to be a really interesting two weeks or so.
03:19I suspect we'll also at some point as well have an update on Ruben Amorim's coaching staff,
03:24who have been seen flying with him from Lisbon.
03:26The fact that, obviously, Vanessa Roy, et cetera, have moved on means that, well,
03:30they've got to be replaced by someone.
03:31So I don't think it takes a genius to work out who that's going to be.
03:34So, yeah, listen, there'll be plenty more news over the next 10 days or so
03:38regarding Amorim and his start at United.
