On this week’s Pompey Talk, we relive a magical afternoon which could well prove to be a turning point in the Blues’ season, after Colby Bishop’s shock return and the 3-1 win over Preston. And Pompey writer Jordan Cross breaks down what the picture is likely to be in the January transfer window, as he offers the inside track on recruitment in the new year.

00:00A number of different factors, obviously the fact that everyone has spoken about how difficult
00:06the start was, was an obvious factor. I think Pompey came through that as well as could
00:13be expected, if not probably a little bit better actually. And then obviously the flatness
00:17of what came after now, a number of factors. Now obviously recruitment quite rightly under
00:24the spotlight in the midst of that, and a finger being pointed at a lack of championship
00:29ready players, despite Pompey saying some things to the contrary, probably had some
00:33savings. But again, a number of different factors, players coming back, players getting
00:38up to speed. And this is going to be a point we can talk about in the second half of the
00:42show as well, it's an ongoing point about the former key men coming back, the Regan
00:47Pooles of the like, obviously Colby not being around. Callum Lange with being so much on
00:53his shoulders, Matt Ritchie not kind of, a big player that was anticipated in the summer
00:57not really being involved and up to speed. But as much as that was a difficult moment
01:04and it was yanked and a lot of questions posed at Pompey, I think I've been quite consistent
01:09in my viewpoint from the summer to now. Going in, it wasn't the thing to say, but for me,
01:14I've said it repeatedly, fourth from bottom was the ambition for Pompey this season.
