00:00No marriage is perfect, and celebrity relationships are no exception. Take Dax Shepard and Kristen
00:05Bell, for instance. It doesn't take a detective like Veronica Mars to see how there are some
00:10pretty iffy red flags waving around this couple. Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard have been together
00:14for almost a lifetime by Hollywood standards, but their relationship might not be as picture-perfect
00:19as it seems. In fact, the two didn't even really like one another when they first met
00:23at a mutual friend's birthday dinner.
00:25We're sitting at a table. The only thing I remember is that he talked so much. And then
00:29we left. There were no sparks whatsoever."
00:31As for Shepard, he shared on Off Camera with Sam Jones that he wasn't sure he deserved
00:35to be with someone as kind and compassionate as his now-wife.
00:38She never, ever said to me, you know, you could be a little better of a person.
00:47So who would have guessed that these two have managed to stay married for more than 10 years?
00:51Unfortunately, because there's always an unfortunately, according to relationship coach Nicole Moore,
00:56founder and CEO of Loveworks Method, there are lots of red flags in the couple's marriage.
01:00While everybody comes with their fair share of issues, Moore exclusively shared with Glam
01:05all the reasons the hit-and-run stars have been fighting an uphill battle and why their
01:09relationship is far from ideal.
01:11In 2018, Katie Edwards revealed to the Daily Mail that she had a fling with Dax Shepard
01:16in 2009 and even shared pics of them making out as proof. The problem was that the podcast
01:21host and Kristen Bell had been together since 2007.
01:24In a now-deleted Instagram post, Shepard called B.S. on the rumor by stating that they had
01:29hooked up in 2005, before he was with Bell. Unfortunately, the damage had been done.
01:34Moore explained,
01:35"...This is a red flag as the fact that the rumors keep happening may indicate that there's
01:39some truth there."
01:40Dax has admitted that he broke up with someone he was currently dating to pursue Kristen,
01:44which could indicate that he is the type of person to have feelings for multiple people
01:47at once.
01:48We know. We know. There's no hard evidence that Shepard cheated, but the rumors probably
01:52caused even more mistrust between him and Bell. Moore told us,
01:56"...It's really difficult for a partner to hear repeated cheating rumors and trust their
02:00partner blindly without feeling a nagging sense of fear that the rumors might be true."
02:04So it's likely that Kristen is more scared of Dax cheating than she lets on.
02:08"...There's no tomorrow."
02:09Plus, she said that Shepard's response to the allegations using humor screamed deflection.
02:14And the red flags don't stop there. Shepard has been open about his journey with addiction
02:18and sobriety, and in 2020, he revealed on his podcast Armchair Expert that he had relapsed
02:23after 16 years of sobriety. Following a motorcycle accident, the parenthood actor started taking
02:29painkillers and soon began to abuse them. While he eventually came clean to Bell, Moore
02:34told us,
02:35"...Dax has been honest that he lied to Kristen about relapsing, and while he eventually came
02:39clean and got support for his addiction, the lying and emotional stress from his relapse
02:43likely took a big toll on Kristen."
02:45Moore went on to say that Shepard's addiction might be a huge stressor in his marriage to
02:49Bell, and initially hiding his relapse from her was bound to cause trust issues. The love
02:53coach explained,
02:54"...While it's great that Kristen has always expressed utmost support and understanding
02:58for her partner, behind the scenes, she may experience frustration and resentment at the
03:02pain his addiction has caused them."
03:04Shepard and Bell have been open about needing couples counseling for their marriage and
03:08all the effort they put into maintaining their relationship. Yes, therapy is indeed a positive
03:13step toward a healthy marriage, but Moore thinks the amount of work Shepard and Bell
03:16do has to be exhausting. She told us,
03:19"...While healthy couples do work on their relationship, if a couple needs to constantly
03:22work on their relationship to make it work, it's a sign that they may not truly be compatible."
03:27Moore's take is that their relationship may have codependent tendencies, which she explains
03:32is common when one person is dealing with addiction. She explained,
03:35"...It's possible that she may be taking on more than her share of responsibilities, and
03:39also taking on Dax's emotional load, perhaps, in an attempt to keep the peace."
03:43While it's refreshing when celebrities share personal info about themselves, Moore thinks
03:47that Bell and Shepard overshare to the point that it's a waving red flag. Her take?
03:52"...When a relationship becomes so open to public consumption and opinion, the partners
03:56may feel a duty to uphold a certain image while the reality of the relationship may
03:59be quite different. Plus, oversharing their problems with their fans takes away any privacy
04:04they have as celebrities. There's a reason many choose not to talk about their private
04:08lives, so it may be best if Bell and Shepard keep their relationship issues away from the
04:12public in the future."
