Epic sandworm rides across the desert of Arrakis, a thrilling gladiator battle involving a rhino and a display of the unmitigated feeling of pure Anxiety —those are just a few scenes and characters that have entertained audiences this past year, none of which would be possible without the artisans who make the magic happen behind the scenes.

00:00Thank you, Pamela. This movie wouldn't be what it is without you, so it brings me so much joy to have given you an opportunity that's been long deserved.
00:10I'll miss you when this is all over, so we'll just have to keep making things together.
00:15Thank you everyone at Variety and Hamilton for this honor. It is truly meaningful.
00:22This movie is my love letter to Las Vegas, to the people who worked behind the scenes that brings the magic to life,
00:29and to the long lost artistry and craft of the showgirl, which is indelible to Las Vegas.
00:36Thank you, Kate Gersten, for trusting me with your beautiful script.
00:40Thank you to Roadside and all our producing and distribution partners who believed in this little film with a big message.
00:47It's a story about pushing back on societal tropes that women are confined to,
00:52and reminds us the older we women get, the more interesting we become.
00:58Our sisterhood on set proved this. I thank all the incredible women in front of and behind the camera who joined us on this adventure,
01:07and of course Dave and Jason too.
01:10At its heart, The Last Showgirl is a mother-daughter story, so I share this award with my mom,
01:17who not only gave me a beautiful life, but who was our costume designer and selected those stunning, shimmery costumes.
01:24Thanks, Ari.
01:28I also share this with my husband, our adorable son, and my extended family, all 4,011 of them.
01:37I bring this film to light the push and pull of the analog versus the digital in the Las Vegas landscape.
01:44We deal with this all the time in cinema. There are only a few places to get film processed, especially Super 16.
01:52Jobs are being replaced with machines, not just in movies, but in every industry.
01:57This is a reminder for all of us not to be so quick to discard our originators.
02:02Let's find ways to pay tribute or be creatively inventive as we carve out our modern paths.
02:08Our lead character, Shelly, pushes forward in the direction of her dreams,
02:13while society, culture, her family, the industry push back on her.
02:18In her own flawed way, she pushes forward, and I wish for the artists here tonight,
02:23working to retain their autonomy over their visions, that they continue to find their courage and support to push forward.
02:29Thank you so much.
