00:00Could you just take me behind the curtain for a minute and say I've just won the lottery?
00:05What happens now?
00:06Well, you're probably sat at home, you know, checking your tickets and you ring the number
00:11on the back of the ticket and you get through to a call centre, they take your details and
00:15they pass them over to my team and we call you back.
00:18And that phone call is really interesting because actually there's two parts of it.
00:21One is, you know, talking through the process and what bank details you've got and what
00:26ID you've got.
00:27But actually the really, really important part is dealing with someone going through
00:31a huge amount of shock, you know, and really sort of getting to understand how they are
00:36and who they told and what they fancy doing.
00:39And then we come and see you normally a few days after that phone call, we complete the
00:44paperwork and pay the funds into your bank account within two working days of that meeting.
00:48So that's the logistics of getting the money over to you.
00:52But actually that's just the start of it.
00:54Yeah, as I said, we would typically chat to you about what your next steps are, what your
00:59next plans are.
01:00You know, do you plan on telling lots of people, not telling anyone?
01:05We make sure you have good access to legal advice and financial advice.
01:08We normally see you a few weeks later with a really good solicitor and financial expert
01:12who are there to help you as well.
01:14Some advice which is always given to winners when they first hear about their Lottery win
01:18is to take their time and do nothing in haste.
01:21It's suggested that they take a holiday so as to allow the news to sink in.
01:26It's also been found that winners are often in deep shock in the initial days after a
01:30Lottery win, but that family and friends play a vital role in grounding.
01:35We know is that actually, overwhelmingly, the population are really, really conservative
01:40because actually if you have the big shock of coming into money, the first thing you
01:44need to do is make sure you don't lose that, you know, so people really do take their time
01:49and they don't do anything quickly.
01:51Now more than ever actually, to be honest with you, the current generation Lottery winners
01:55are more conservative than they've ever been.
