A Tetris History.
*Note* This was divided in two due to potential copyright, however, nothing occurred. Kept them separated. This one includes the Games only.
There are three phases of this game I will consider, you got the documentary phase, the games themselves, and finally Time Warp.
First the documentary, it is a pretty simple and detail overview, my only problem is that it feels too perfect. It might be that way that it was the shiny perfect story with rainbows and everything. But all history knows that their are the dirty parts. The really only dirty part was that the original developer didn't get any money until the right reverted back to him.
Next is the games themselves. All the games you know can tell the age. all work decent for controller, but you can feel their age while playing. There are only really 3 of the games I would be willing to play again. Tetris 1984, Tetris 2 + Bombliss 1991, and Hatris 1992. These three feel the best in general in the pack, even if 1984 has only 1 rotate button.
Lastly Time Warp, this is the tetris included in this game. The unique part about it, you have this block that can do some stuff while in gameplay, my problem with this is that there are only two parts to it, you got the Gameboy Tetris and must clear 2 blocks, and Bombliss where you detonate a big bomb. Then you're done. nothing special. It does feel very refined and nice. and has a "original" 1989 marathon. Which sadly I can't say is special as it doesn't feel like it actually is in 1989 since I can T-spin in it and shouldn't be able to at all. I honestly recommend Tetris Effect instead of this.
Graphics 5/5: Solid, its clear that they wanted this to feel like both original games with how they felt, and with time warp having solid colors in it in general.
Playability 5/5: It's a Tetris game. It's very hard to mess up one after all.
Music 5/5: Solid, keeping the original themes in every game, and a solid remix of Korobeniki in Time Warp.
Difficulty 4/5: Not because Tetris is hard, just the documentary part lags, since difficulty includes gameplay bugs, this makes it lose a score.
Personal 3/5: It feels like this should have been released once 1 of them died, because now you have a definitive end to the saga of Tetris. Though, if they plan to update this every time a new development occurs, then I could see this as being worth it. Then again, the games don't feel like genuine ports, I can still skate which classic Tetris players know you can't skate a piece.
