00:00I, Ashish Shatre, welcome you to my heart-breaking careers by Nazariya.
00:16Friends, those were the days when acting, direction and many other art practices were
00:22considered taboo in the society.
00:24A lot of things have improved and as per the times, new challenges have also emerged.
00:29According to me, many new actors get disappointed in identifying and finding their own path.
00:36Don't worry!
00:37Today's Nazariya will definitely enlighten you about the performance industry.
00:42So, let's begin.
00:43First, understand that acting is a skill and craft-based profession just like doctor, engineer and farmer.
00:50No one learns acting from his mother's womb.
00:52If there is an insect in your blood, then it is your responsibility to make it a dinosaur with hard work.
01:04Now, have you read about ancient Greek theatre or your drama?
01:08In both these texts, it is clear that actors played an important role in the cultural, ritual and socio-political landscape.
01:17For this work, they had to undergo long training to develop their physical and emotional aesthetic sense.
01:23Which was taught to them in a systematic manner as per the needs of that time.
01:27But in the 20th century, for the first time, Stanislavski theorized acting.
01:32In which, through different exercises and techniques, he developed a system of modern acting.
01:38The 20th century brought with it a time when the landscape of modern acting and performance training was developing rapidly.
01:44People like Bertolt Brecht, Grotowski and Peter Brook started to define acting more.
01:49Before moving ahead, know that acting for stage and acting for camera are two different things.
01:56Both have different rules, but many things are common in training.
02:00Like presence, character development, diction, your practice and teamwork.
02:05In India, acting and theatre were very important from 1960 to 1980.
02:10During this time, Satyadev Dubey, founding father of National School of Drama, Ibrahim Al-Qazi,
02:18Habib Tanvir, Badal Sarkar and IPTA were the ones to give the real form to modern acting and performance.
02:23By devising western concepts from their Indian folk and classical traditions,
02:28they prepared a modern Indian acting training and theatre language.
02:34In the cinema industry, actors like Guru Dutt, Nargis and Dina Pathak drew people's attention to their craft and acting skills.
02:43Now see, the field of acting and performance is run through ensemble work.
02:48On the credit of good performance, the entire team has a right.
02:51When directors, writers, co-actors and make-up artists work hard, a good story is presented to us.
02:59That's why directors like Satyajit Ray, Aparna Sen, Hrithvik Ghatak and Anurag Kashyap
03:04have defined screen acting through intense processes with their team.
03:09In 2024, it is very important for you to know that memorizing a script alone is not good acting.
03:15Actors like Irrfan Khan, Manoj Vajpayee and Rajkumar Rao have made people understand that it is very important to take acting training.
03:24But there are so many schools, everyone is claiming that come to us, we will make you an actor.
03:28You should also know what is right and good training.
03:32A good training gives attention to your daily practice.
03:36That is, such a training that opens up your physical and cultural expression more
03:40and encourages it to be put into your daily practice routine.
03:44In the initial stage, you can learn with any physical form like Terakuttu, Chhau, Kalripet etc.
03:50which will strengthen your physical expression.
03:53Along with that, you can expand it by identifying your range of voice through any musical form or training.
04:00Know that it is very important for you to get up and learn with the right people.
04:05The performance industry is growing.
04:07But still, due to the lack of organization, many people are exploited financially and emotionally.
04:13Whatever you choose, do proper research.
04:16Reach out to the people whose work you genuinely appreciate.
04:21First take an informed advice and then the decision.
04:24Theatre is a good place to explore and develop your acting skills.
04:27But understand this very clearly that this is neither a stepping stone for the film industry
04:33nor a magic wand that you turn once and learn acting.
04:37You invest yourself completely to the stage, do as many stage shows as possible
04:42and most importantly, receive and implement constructive feedback.
04:46You should see learning acting as a career investment.
04:49If you want, you can go to an acting school.
04:51Otherwise, you learn on the job by approaching directors, senior actors and makers.
04:56You have to keep in mind that this industry is also full of gambling.
05:01There are many so-called casting agencies, acting trainers and theatre troupes
05:06where cheating young acting enthusiasts is their primary business.
05:11Now see, just like there are specializations to become a great doctor in a doctory,
05:15similarly, after a basic fundamental acting training, you need to specialize to become a better actor.
05:23The world is of devising, improvisation and experimental work
05:27which need comparatively more preparation and in return offers more fun and exclusive experiences.
05:33National School of Drama, School of Drama Thrissur, Drama School Mumbai, FTII Pune,
05:38Neenasam, Lalit Kala Academy, etc. offer quality acting training in India.
05:43Often, there is a long debate on nepotism in cinema.
05:47But what field is nepotism not in?
05:50No, no, I am not justifying this practice.
05:53I am saying that with the strengthening of OTT platforms, social media and independent film projects,
05:59the industry has become a little democratized.
06:01Our view is that many media platforms are overusing nepotism in the cinema context to earn TRP
06:08and are demonizing the industry to an extreme.
06:11If you practice well and try to become a better actor day by day,
06:15then no one can stop you from reaching the right platform.
06:19Friends, acting has become a very wide and dense profession.
06:23Physical theatre, intercultural performances, method acting,
06:26and a lot more interesting stuff is not possible to tell in this video.
06:31Yes, if you request part 2 in the comment section below, then it can be done.
06:37Type part 2 below quickly and in the next video I will tell you in detail
06:42how you can pursue acting and make a good international career.
06:47Until then, keep watching good movies and good theatre.
06:50And instead of taking autographs from actors, take suggestions from them.
06:54And do like, share and subscribe to Nazaria.
06:57I, Ashish Chaturvedi, will meet you in my next video.
07:00Till then, goodbye.
