The Prime Minister is on his way home after the G20 Summit in Brazil. Before leaving, Anthony Albanese met with his Indian counterpart. They pledged greater trade and military cooperation, but they do differ on India’s growing ties with Russia.

00:00Last, but certainly not least, Anthony Albanese's final meeting of this summit season was with
00:08the leader of the world's most populous country.
00:10Prime Minister, I'm very pleased that we're having our annual leaders' summit here.
00:16The two Prime Ministers discussed improving trade and military ties, and inevitably cricket.
00:21It's now a great rivalry, but played in great spirit.
00:27But they don't agree on everything. India has been growing closer to Russia, both economically
00:32and diplomatically. Narendra Modi is now set to host Vladimir Putin in New Delhi, despite
00:37an international criminal court arrest warrant for the Russian President.
00:41It's up to Mr Modi, Prime Minister Modi, will conduct foreign policy as he sees it.
00:50The G20 leaders as a whole often don't agree on everything either, but they did manage
00:55to achieve a joint declaration here in Rio. They called for a comprehensive ceasefire
01:00in Gaza, and reiterated support for a two-state solution in the Middle East. Leaders also
01:05called for a just and durable peace in Ukraine, but there was no finger of blame pointed over
01:10either conflict, and no specifics on how peace should be achieved.
01:15Mr Putin can end this now by just withdrawing to his own borders, which is what should occur.
01:23On climate change, there was clear support amongst G20 leaders to stick with the Paris
01:27Climate Agreement, which Donald Trump has vowed to abandon. Support too, for a so-called
01:32climate finance deal to be finalised. Although here too, the details of which countries should
01:37pay what, has been left for others to negotiate.
01:40At the APEC summit in Peru, and this G20 gathering in Brazil, the Prime Minister has been navigating
01:46a rapidly changing global environment. He's been making clear Australia's support for
01:51free trade and climate action. He now heads back to navigate a difficult political environment
01:57at home, and will be focused squarely on domestic priorities in the lead-up to his own election.
