They look so majestic now! Our producer Keren kept in touch with all three of these huskies for months, watched them transform and found out why there are so many huskies in shelters right now.

00:00Three huskies were found stray in a field.
00:07They were cowering, looking away with their eyes.
00:10They were going to be euthanized the next day.
00:14They obviously had never had leashes on.
00:20It really seemed kind of like an impossible, daunting task.
00:23I stayed in touch with their fosters and rescuers to find out how they were all doing.
00:40And I was the most struck by the transformation Echo had made in a short amount of time.
00:48We walked him around a bit. He was very flighty, very nervous.
00:51Put him in the crate and then went to take him out. We couldn't get him out.
00:56Went to take him out that night. We couldn't get him out.
00:59Then finally I was like, it's been almost 24 hours. We have to get him out of the crate.
01:04I just said, why don't you just go open the crate door and just like sit.
01:10He just slowly walked out. It was just so pure and beautiful.
01:16Right then I was like, okay, maybe he is rehabbable.
01:21And then we just continued to kind of give him time and space to decompress.
01:25So he knows there's nothing to be afraid of.
01:28We gave him a bath and he just sat there like peacefully.
01:33He let us out this big, like it was like a sigh of relief for him.
01:38I think he knew he was in good hands.
01:40From there, it was just a little bit of progress every single day.
01:45Finally, we were like, okay, well, we're dog trainers. He needs to be around other dogs.
01:51He just like got down on the ground, rolled on his back, started doing zoomies.
01:56He just was a different dog.
01:58After a couple of weeks, it was no longer being scared.
02:01It was just like, okay, I got this.
02:04It was just like the greatest feeling ever.
02:06When he found his forever home, it was like watching it leave for college.
02:10When he found his forever home, it was like watching it leave for college.
02:15You know, it's like, okay, like we've done everything we can for you.
02:19Bye.
02:21And now he's living his fullest, happiest life ever.
02:26Like a fairy tale.
02:27It couldn't have gone any better.
02:30That is so beautiful.
02:32Oh my God.
02:33I was amazed by Echo's story.
02:35And I was so curious how his siblings, Timber and Rosie, were doing.
02:39I reached back out to Emily and she sent me the cutest photo and videos of them.
02:44Rosie and Timber recently got together for a little party with all their rescuers
02:49and people who helped them along the way.
02:52But I was disappointed to hear that they still didn't have homes.
02:56Okay, ready?
02:57She told me that the number of Huskies in animal shelters and rescues
03:00has more than doubled since 2020.
03:02And that there's so many different reasons of how we got here.
03:05They generally need an experienced owner and someone who won't give up on them.
03:09Huskies can be escape artists and they're vocal
03:13and they're tenacious and stubborn and they shed a lot.
03:17But they're also incredibly outgoing and playful family dogs.
03:21We talked about how the overall shelter crisis is devastating everywhere.
03:26The shelter crisis means that wonderful dogs across the country
03:30are having trouble finding families.
03:32These two are located in California
03:33and you can adopt them through Atlas Animal Rescue.
03:36You can also visit Petfinder to find the perfect pup near you.
03:39There's never been a better time to adopt.
03:42It's the best decision I've ever made.
