00:00Inspired by a Filipino-American triathlete who successfully completed an Ironman triathlon even though he has cancer.
00:07Here is my report.
00:13In the body of Jonathan Tubong San Jose Nueva Ecija, he studied in Hawaii and is now based in San Francisco, California.
00:23It is not surprising that he has lived for 5 years because of cancer.
00:29Mediastinal Paraganglioma.
00:31It is already stage 4 because the cancer that is close to my heart has spread to my lungs and to my bones from my head to my legs.
00:46In March 2022, when he was diagnosed with cancer, he had to undergo surgery for 15 years due to a brain tumor.
00:53Not only did the cancer eat away at his bones, it also fractured his back and he had to undergo surgery.
00:57His cancer is incurable.
00:59There is a therapy, radiation and targeted therapy whose main goal is stability.
01:10But because of his discipline, which led him to become a triathlete for more than 2 decades, he insisted.
01:17After returning from back surgery, he joined and completed an ultramarathon.
01:23It was here that he decided to join the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii, which he dreamed of before he got sick.
01:28But because of his cancer, he will have a hard time in the 3.8km swim.
01:33Because of the blockage of the tumors, my head, my neck and my tongue grew bigger.
01:39That's why I have a hard time breathing.
01:42And that's what happened at the beginning of his career.
01:46When I arrived at the shore, I said, just focus on your breathing and catch your breath.
01:52I heard the announcer say, I had two minutes to spare.
01:57I cried because I realized that I now have the chance to get onto the bike and onto the run.
02:06I knew that I could do it.
02:08Your family is at the very end of that line.
02:12So that's what I was looking for.
02:15Thank God that's exactly what happened.
02:17They were there.
02:18So I clung on to that dream and I've never let go.
02:22As long as his body can take it, Jonathan will continue his career to strengthen his body
02:28and to inspire those like him who are fighting to live.
02:33There is always something that you can do for yourself and others, however difficult your life circumstances may be.
