00:00In 2012, I was run over by a car in the Netherlands, and I woke up in hospital several days later
00:12with some fairly severe injuries. I am thankful that the resulting police investigation was
00:18swift and efficient. However, unfortunately, that is not the case in the UK. Forensic collision
00:24units across the country are facing severe challenges in preparing cases. That is resulting
00:30in large delays to trials and, ultimately, to justice, prolonging the agony for impacted
00:36families. What is the Department doing to help the police tackle these resourcing challenges
00:43and ensure that those road traffic collision cases come to a swifter conclusion?
00:49First of all, I am very sorry to hear about the accident that the hon. Gentleman suffered
00:56in 2012. I hope that he has made a very full recovery. As to the particular point, I am
01:02going to go away and ask my officials about that and what more we can do to ensure that
01:06justice is done when there are road collisions and that cases go to court quickly.
