The government saved nearly RM1mil by using private chartered flights for the Prime Minister's recent official and working visits abroad, says Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.
Speaking at a post-Cabinet press conference on Friday (Nov 22), Fahmi emphasised that the government fully covered the costs of the Prime Minister's travels, and clarified that none of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's travel expenses were sponsored by private companies.

00:00At the same time, the Prime Minister has also given an explanation to the Cabinet,
00:08along with the Minister, Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul, regarding the cost of the visit.
00:18And I have been asked to give an explanation on this issue,
00:25because there are several parties that have tried to give an image and perception that is too far from the reality.
00:39The official visit of the Prime Minister, which has been attended by the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry,
00:45the Minister of Foreign Affairs, as well as several other ministers,
00:53is indeed intended to strengthen the economic, trade and diplomatic relations between Malaysia,
00:59especially between Mexico, Peru and Brazil.
01:03The business delegation that has participated in this visit is fully funded by the companies themselves,
01:12and reflects the strong interest of Malaysian companies towards trade and investment opportunities
01:19in the countries and regions that have been visited.
01:25For your information, the total cost of a private rental flight of the Airbus A350
01:40is Rp6.162 million,
01:49while the cost paid by the Malaysian government for the official delegation is Rp1.662 million,
02:01which is 27% of the total cost.
02:06While the business delegation pays 73% of the total cost, or Rp4.5 million.
02:17It is important for me to clarify that the government pays for the flight of the Prime Minister.
02:24The Prime Minister is not paid by any company, but is paid by the government.
02:31What happens is that with this private rental flight,
02:37the government gets a savings,
02:42if compared to the existing plane,
02:47the total cost will be Rp2.5 million,
02:51which means there is a savings of more than Rp900,000.
02:57However, the government still pays a cost of Rp1.662 million,
03:07while for all matters such as accommodation, food, transportation,
03:15are all managed by the government,
03:19or as a sponsor for events such as APEC and G20.
