00:00I want to give you an example, if I announce my divorce tomorrow and I always give the example of Rafael Nadal because I am a big fan of him and I have also dedicated my book to him and if Rafael Nadal announces in Spain,
00:25so will we say that there is something between Vandana Shah and Rafael Nadal and that is why they announced their divorce at the same time?
00:34These are two independent events.
00:36So why are they linking?
00:38Similarly, a person is in pain while going through a divorce.
00:42So why are they spreading unnecessary rumors and increasing the pain of someone else?
00:56How can people even think like this?
01:06I don't want to comment on that because it is so untrue.
01:09I am giving you the example of Rafael Nadal and Vandana Shah.
01:14So don't go on that topic.
01:16Sorry for saying this is all rubbish talk.
01:22So don't go on that topic.
01:25See, whether it is a 29 year old marriage or a 15 year old marriage, there are ups and downs in every marriage.
01:37That is life.
01:39In some marriages, there is tolerance that we tolerate and move on.
01:43Like our parents used to tolerate and move on.
01:46But nowadays, maybe tolerance has reduced.
01:50So people look at marriage accordingly.
01:54Maybe divorce is an option for better lives, for rebuilding lives, for getting new meanings to lives.
02:03And it is not always that if I find someone, I will break my marriage.
02:08So I want to also put that out there.
02:15Divorces are on the rise everywhere.
02:18Divorces are on the rise everywhere.
02:21In India, I mean, I have been seeing for the last 10-15 years that divorces are only increasing.
02:29Divorces are not stopping.
02:31Like I say, divorces are here to stay and I say, institution of marriage is also here to stay.
02:39So both are going to go hand in hand, but divorces are here to stay.
02:49I say that if we increase our tolerance a little bit.
02:54I don't use the word compromise, I use the word tolerance.
02:58Like we do with our friends, we tolerate our friends a lot, you know.
03:03But we don't tolerate our spouses that much.
03:06If you live as friends, then I think your chances are very high.
03:11And a little bit of forgiveness.
03:13Start the next day. Don't just live in the past.
03:18Is what I say.
03:20But I think tolerance is the key for long marriages and somewhat happy marriages.
03:32I will tell you 3-4 cases.
03:35I had a case when a blind man wanted a divorce.
03:40And I cried a lot in that case because his wife had filed for divorce.
03:47And he had no choice but to give the divorce.
03:51You know, and he was about 60 years at that time.
03:55So, you know, I mean, then you start questioning a little bit, what is this?
04:01So that for me was a very impactful case.
04:05That there should be a little empathy in life.
04:11And in that case, I had asked a lot of questions that let's get married.
04:16Now where will he go at the age of 60?
04:19Secondly, a Bollywood couple had come.
04:24I always thought that they were quite madly in love.
04:27And I thought, at least when I was growing up, you know, I used to look up to them.
04:31That wow, they are a really good couple.
04:33So, I was very sad at the time of that couple.
04:37And the third case, which made me learn a lot.
04:42When I got a 250 crore alimony settlement done.
04:46So in that case, I had learned a lot.
04:49So I consider that also a very good case.
04:52And one of my cases was that I had done pro bono.
04:59And the girl's husband was an auto driver.
05:03So I was standing there.
05:06And the judge said, she doesn't have anybody.
05:10So madam, do you mind arguing for her?
05:12I quickly made the argument.
05:14I read the paper in 10 minutes, made the argument.
05:16I think I got her that interim maintenance of 500 or 1500 rupees a month.
05:22So I felt very satisfied with that.
05:24And after that, I got her divorce done.
05:27I got her all the things.
05:30So I felt very happy.
05:31These 3-4 cases are very good for me.
