24 November- National weather forecast presented by Greg Dewhurst
Transcript
00:00Hello there. It's been a very unsettled 24 hours as Storm Bert has moved in across the
00:05UK. We've seen gusts of 50 to 80 miles an hour across parts of the UK and over 100 millimetres
00:10of rain in places too, leading to some disruption. Storm Bert only slowly pushes its way eastwards
00:16across the north of the UK over the next 24 hours. Still quite strong winds across the
00:21UK, some heavy rain too. So, MetOvis warnings remain in force for the rest of Sunday. We
00:26can see heavy rain across central, southern parts of England and Wales as we go through
00:31Sunday afternoon. There could be some local disruption and further flooding in places.
00:35To the south-east of this, some brighter skies across the far south-east of England. A little
00:40drier for northern parts of Wales and England, though rather cloudy with still some outbreaks
00:44of rain at times. A few sunnier spells for Northern Ireland into Scotland, but blustery
00:49showers in the west. The wind's picking up as well across north-west Scotland, gusts
00:54of 60 to 70 miles an hour. So, a windy afternoon to come for many of us and fairly unsettled.
01:00Temperatures very mild across the south-east, 16, 17 Celsius. This weather front just starting
01:05to introduce something a little fresher across northern parts of Wales, northern England.
01:09So, temperatures dropping away to 11 or 12 Celsius after that mild start this morning
01:13and temperatures again 9 to 12 Celsius further north as well. So, still above where they
01:18should be for the time of year. An unsettled end to Sunday as the centre of the storm tracks
01:24its way eastwards. Frequent showers, strong winds across the north-west of Scotland, transferring
01:29eastwards and into Northern Ireland as well. This weather front as well in the south-east
01:33just pushing its way towards south-east England during the early hours. Some clearer spells
01:37and showers in between. Temperatures overnight falling to single figures, generally where
01:42they should be for the daytime during this part of the year, 7 to 9 Celsius. So, a fairly
01:48fresh start to Monday morning compared to the weekend and we'll see some rain across
01:53the south-east clearing away, brightening up with the day ahead looking like a mixture
01:57of sunny spells and showers. Showers most frequent across the north and the west of
02:02the UK. It rains on the gusty side for everyone, gusts around 30 to 40 miles an hour, perhaps
02:07locally 50 across northern parts in particular. Frequent showers across northern Scotland
02:12leading to some longer spells of rain and as the winds turn around to a north-westerly
02:16here we start to see the rain turn back to sleet and snow, particularly over the higher
02:20ground. So, temperatures back down to average for most, 7 to 9 Celsius, locally 10 or 11
02:25across the south-east to end the afternoon. And looking at the week ahead, it remains
02:32a changeable picture. We'll see further low pressure systems trying to move in at times
02:36so we could see some further wet and windy weather in places, but there will be some
02:40sunshine too and generally colder compared to the weekend as well, but not as cold as
02:45last week was and we could see the return of some overnight frost in places too. So,
02:52still unsettled through the day ahead and into the beginning of next week and then a
02:56changeable picture to come. You can find more information on our social media channels.
03:01See you again soon.
