A MAN with no mechanical experience has fulfilled his childhood goal of building his dream car. Taking inspiration from when he read car magazines in his youth, Moses Ngobeni, has managed to build his ideal car - all by hand. The electrical engineer from Giyani, South Africa, spent three years building the car he had dreamt of for decades. Building the car cost Moses 240,000 ZAR ($12,742) and was made using parts from a variety of different car models.

00:15COMM COMMENTARY Electrical engineer Moses Ungabeni has realised
00:18a childhood dream, to build his very own sports car from scratch.
00:23MOSES UNGABENI While I was still a boy, something came up
00:26into my mind. It said one day I want to build my own sports vehicle. And I saw those American
00:33sports cars like COVID. Then I said one day when I grow old, I want to build one and nothing
00:39can stop me. It was bend by hand. The body structure, shape
00:44and everything, it was handmade. And it's not like it's a complete workshop, but if
00:49you are determined to complete your future dream, you end up doing it. By God's grace,
00:54I've managed to complete my project. So I thank God for that.
00:57COMM COMMENTARY The thrifty engineer used car parts from a
01:00number of different models and has only spent 240,000 Rand so far. That's just £12,700
01:08or $16,750 US dollars.
01:11MOSES UNGABENI The engine is a 2-litre engine from BMW 318
01:15IS, 98 model. The glasses, this small one here is from the Mazda 86 model. The door
01:24glasses are from BMW M3 E46 model, 2005. The front windscreen is from BWKD Baki. The
01:35front lights, they are from ODTT 2011 model. The rear fog lamp is from the 318 IS. It was
01:42used as a brake assistance on top of the windscreen. The taillights are from Nissan Skyline GT-R
01:482015 model.
01:49COMM COMMENTARY Moses can even start the engine remotely.
01:53MOSES UNGABENI I'm really proud of him. I know it's a dream
01:56come true for him to build this car. It's his passion.
01:59COMM COMMENTARY And the supercar superfan hopes his new wheels
02:02will also make his country proud.
02:04MOSES UNGABENI In South Africa we don't have a model that
02:07will say it was manufactured, designed by South Africa. I am South African. I'm not
02:13doing this thing for myself, it's for the country and for my people.
