00:00Some Texas lawmakers are planning to protect children in the state by banning drag shows in
00:04the presence of minors. So what sparked their motivation? Brute can explain in less than 60
00:08seconds. Texas State Representative Brian Slayton, a Republican, announced his plan to introduce
00:14legislation that would ban drag shows from happening in front of minors. And so far he's
00:19gotten support from other Republicans like Florida Representative Anthony Sabatini and
00:23Colorado Representative Lauren Boebert. Slayton said that the goal behind this proposal is
00:28protecting kids from drag shows and other inappropriate displays. The announcement
00:33comes during Pride Month and after videos showing young children attending a drag show in Dallas
00:38went viral. The show, titled Drag the Kids to Pride, sparked controversy, with some people
00:44even showing up to protest the event. The performance was described as a family-friendly
00:48drag show and happened at a Dallas area gay bar. The next legislative session isn't scheduled until
00:53January 10, 2023. And if Slayton moves forward with drafting the bill, that is the earliest that
00:59it could be considered.
