00:00Representative George Santos is denying he participated in drag queen competitions in
00:04Brazil 15 years ago. A Reuters article cites a 58-year-old Brazilian drag queen,
00:09Eula Rochard, who claims she became friends with Santos in 2005 at a Pride parade in a Rio de
00:14Janeiro suburb. Rochard also shared photos allegedly showing Santos in drag. A second
00:20unnamed source also told Reuters that Santos wanted to be Miss Gay Rio de Janeiro and participated in
00:26drag queen beauty pageants at the time. Independent journalist Marissa Cabas, who also spoke with
00:30Santos' former acquaintance, tweeted that many people knew him by his drag persona,
00:34Katara, at the time. He publicly denied the claims on Twitter, calling the report outrageous.
00:39Santos, an openly gay Republican, has faced criticism for his support of Florida's Don't
00:43Say Gay Bill and other anti-LGBTQ plus legislation, and has clearly aligned himself
00:48with several Republican colleagues who have recently waged war against the drag queen
00:52community. Federal authorities are currently looking into the congressman for campaign finance
00:56violations. He has also been accused of fabricating his resume, falsely claiming to be Jewish with
01:01Holocaust-surviving grandparents, and lying about his mother dying in 9-11.
