00:00Tyler James Williams has addressed the speculation regarding his sexuality.
00:04The Abbott Elementary actor posted a note to his Instagram account over the weekend.
00:08Quote, I'm not gay, but I think the culture of trying to find some kind of hidden trait
00:12or behavior that a closeted person lets slip is very dangerous, he wrote.
00:17Overanalyzing someone's behavior in an attempt to catch them directly contributes to the
00:21anxiety a lot of queer and queer questioning people feel when they fear living in their
00:25truth.
00:26James went on to say that this sort of speculation can make everyday conversations feel less
00:30safe for members of the LGBTQ plus community and those who are questioning their sexuality.
00:35He added that it also reinforces an archetype that straight men have to live under that
00:39can limit individual expression and said that he hopes to use his platform to push back
00:43against that.
00:44Quote, being straight doesn't look one way, being gay doesn't look one way, he wrote,
00:48and what may seem like harmless fun and conversation may actually be sending a dangerous message
00:52to those who struggle with real issues.
00:54I refuse to inadvertently contribute to that message.
00:57He concluded with a wish of safety and visibility to all queer and queer questioning individuals
01:02as pride month begins.
01:04Quote, as an ally, I continue to be committed to assisting in that where I can, Williams
01:08said and helping to cultivate a future where we are all accepted and given permission to
01:13be ourselves.
