00:00Abigail Zwirner, the Virginia teacher who was shot by her six-year-old student, is now
00:04suing the school district for $40 million.
00:06I remember the look on his face.
00:09I remember the gun going off.
00:11I remember feeling something.
00:13It was a pretty scary day.
00:15According to Zwirner, school administrators at Richneck Elementary School were warned
00:19multiple times by teachers and other students that the six-year-old was in possession of
00:24a handgun.
00:25School administrators, however, repeatedly failed to appropriately act on the information
00:29according to the lawsuit.
00:31Since the shooting, the school's assistant principal has resigned, the principal was
00:35transferred to a different role, and the school's superintendent was removed from his position.
00:40The lawsuit claims the six-year-old student also had a history of violent and inappropriate
00:44behavior at the school, though the prosecutor in the case clarified that the student will
00:49not face charges.
00:50The student's family released a statement saying the child has an acute disability and
00:54is receiving treatment at a medical facility.
