00:00Sprite just announced that it's ditching its iconic green bottle.
00:03And yeah, we're talking about the one that they've used for over 60 years.
00:07So why the change?
00:08Brew can explain in less than 60 seconds.
00:10As of August 1st, 2022, Sprite will be served in clear plastic bottles, Coca-Cola announced.
00:17And it all ties back to the company's effort to be more sustainable.
00:20After all, the company was named the number one plastic polluter in the world
00:25by at least one organization.
00:27As the company explained, the clear plastic bottles can be recycled
00:31and turned into new plastic bottles.
00:32The green ones that we're used to seeing on shelves, however,
00:36contain green polyethylene terephthalate and cannot be recycled.
00:40The company has other sodas that are packaged in green bottles,
00:43including Fresca, Sea Grumps, and Mellow Yellow,
00:45all of which will also be sold in clear bottles in the coming months.
