00:00Brendan Frazier is nominated for his first ever Golden Globe tonight, but we need to talk about
00:04the controversial reason why he won't be in attendance. Frazier, who was nominated for Best
00:08Actor in a Drama for his role in The Whale, told GQ that former Hollywood Foreign Press
00:12Association President Philip Burke sexually assaulted him at an HFPA luncheon in 2003.
00:18Quote, I felt ill, Frazier told GQ in 2018. I felt like a little kid. I felt like there was a ball in
00:23my throat. I thought I was going to cry. I felt like someone had thrown invisible paint on me.
00:27In November, Frazier confirmed that if invited, he would not attend the ceremony.
00:30Burke, who has denied and disputed Frazier's allegations, remained president of the HFPA
00:34for 44 years until April of 2021 when he was fired for emailing the HFPA membership an article that
00:40described Black Lives Matter as a quote, racist hate movement. This isn't the first controversy
00:44the Golden Globes has recently faced. Last year, the award ceremony was not aired due to an LA
00:49Times report that uncovered the HFPA had no black members. In December, the HFPA sent out a press
00:55release announcing that 40% of its new board of directors are people of color.
