00:00Jack Daniel's Whiskey is to blame for an uncontrollable fungus spreading across the
00:03Tennessee county. So what exactly is Whiskey Fungus and how is it affecting the town?
00:08Brooke can explain in less than 60 seconds. The fungus is fueled by ethanol and alcohol
00:12vapors from oak barrels that contain Jack Daniel's Whiskey, and it covers plants,
00:16homes, cars, and other outdoor surfaces in a stubborn black soot. Residents have requested
00:22an environmental impact study and are calling for changes within the warehouses, including adding an
00:26air filtration system, which they think would help. The company said air filters would negatively
00:31impact the taste and that Whiskey Fungus is not dangerous to human health and does not damage
00:35property. One Tennessee resident, however, told Insider that her and her husband spent $10,000 a
00:41year to pressure wash their home with bleach in order to remove the black soot coating.
00:45A lawsuit is currently pending against the Tennessee county where the Jack Daniel's
00:48distilleries are located and a judge temporarily stopped construction of new barrel houses in the
00:54area.
