00:00Meta's oversight group has called for an overhaul to a company rule that bans bare-chested images of
00:04women. In a decision on Tuesday, the board recommended that Meta change its nudity and
00:08sexual activity community standards. This comes after Facebook censored two photos of a transgender
00:13and non-binary couple posing topless but with their nipples covered, raising money for top
00:17surgery. The post was flagged by users, then removed by an AI system. After the couple appealed
00:22the decision, Meta restored the post. The oversight board says the current policy is based on a gender
00:26binary that makes rules unclear when it comes to intersex, non-binary, and transgender users.
00:31They recommend that Meta quote, define clear, objective, rights-respecting criteria so that
00:35all people are treated in a manner consistent with international human rights standards. However,
00:39there's still speculation about what exactly a new policy would allow and how an AI tool would
00:43be able to differentiate between posts that are pornographic and ones that are not. A
00:47representative said Meta welcomes the board's decision and has 60 days to respond.
