00:00A Utah parent is arguing that the Bible is one of the most sex-ridden books around,
00:04and should therefore be banned from schools under a new state law.
00:07So what is the basis of the parent's argument?
00:09Brit can explain in less than 60 seconds.
00:11In a formal complaint filed against Davis High School,
00:13the parent said the Bible has no serious values for minors because
00:16it's pornographic by our new definition.
00:18They go on to say the book should not be allowed in the school library,
00:21given a new book ban in the state.
00:23A law that opponents say was used to disproportionately limit students'
00:26access to books with LGBTQ plus themes and books by authors of color.
00:31The parent specifically called out the Bible's discussion of incest,
00:34genital mutilation, prostitution, and bestiality, among other things.
00:38The parent also attached an eight-page document to their complaint,
00:42which included over 100 Bible verses that they believe violate the new law.
00:46One lawmaker behind Utah's Sensitive Materials in Schools Act said the
00:49complaint is a mockery of the bill and is a part of antics that drain school resources.
00:54But the complaint has been given to a committee for review,
00:56according to a school district spokesperson.
