00:04and teaching conditions. The Columbus Education Association, which represents over 4,000 teachers
00:09and education professionals, said that 94% of its members voted to reject the school board's
00:14final offer and instead go on strike, its first since 1975. The negotiations with Columbus City
00:20Schools focused on class sizes, pay, building conditions, and the availability of art and
00:25physical education classes. The strike started just two days before the new school year was
00:29scheduled to begin on Wednesday, August 24. Students attended the first day remotely as
00:33the strike continued. The Columbus Education Association's bargaining team has negotiated
00:38for months in an attempt to reach an agreement, the union said in a statement, but Columbus City
00:42Schools continues to ignore the voices within our community and invest in our schools in a
00:47way that will improve learning conditions for our students.
