00:12and almost 30 percent of all surveyed U.S. adults
00:15reported being diagnosed with depression at some point in their life.
00:18Both of these findings are the highest recorded rates by Gallup
00:21since it began conducting surveys on depression in 2015.
00:24Women and young adults specifically reported the greatest increases in depression.
00:28While reported rates of depression among Black and Hispanic adults
00:32were nearly double those among white adults.
00:34Many experts believe that COVID-19 has played a significant role in the rising depression rates,
00:39along with social media use and social justice issues.
00:42Experts also believe the desegmentization around mental health topics has spurred
00:46more people to seek help and receive proper diagnosis from medical professionals.
