00:00If you're a man and you've got weight on your shoulders
00:04and you think the only way you can solve this by killing yourself
00:07please speak to someone
00:09I'd rather have me mate cry on me shoulder than go to his funeral
00:13Let's get rid of this stigma and men start talking
00:16I have taken a break from social media for my mental health
00:30because I find Instagram and Twitter to be overstimulating
00:34to be overwhelming
00:36I get caught up and I spiral when I read things about me online
00:41and ultimately it's very detrimental to my mental state
00:47so I decided to take a step back and delete the app
00:50There is an awful stigma against mental health
00:52and I know that asking for help and seeking help
00:57isn't something that we should be ashamed of
00:59but it is something that is much easier said than done
01:01I was running to things to avoid tough feelings
01:05painful feelings
01:07drugs, booze, Netflix, snacks
01:10I don't want to be running from anything
01:14I want to sit in it, I want to feel it
01:16It was kind of something that hit me within the last year
01:20and before that, growing up, I was a pretty calm kid
01:24and then when it hits you, you're like, oh my god, this is crazy
01:27Have you ever struggled with anxiety or depression?
01:30Not so much depression but certainly anxiety
01:32We are not our thoughts
01:34We all have to realize that the things that go on in our brain
01:36is not our true identity
01:38Anxiety is also something that I'm just now being exposed to
01:40For a long time, that wasn't a thing that we talked about
01:43I remember people talking about anxiety
01:45I just don't remember anybody when I was growing up
01:47that really being a thing
01:49It's something that every single person goes through
01:51and for me, I was sick and tired of compartmentalizing things
01:55that I didn't want to talk about
01:57and I just opened up
01:59and honestly, since then, my life has become easier
02:01I think historically there's been a stigma around anxiety
02:04because people are afraid to talk about it
02:06It's good that we're starting to have conversations about
02:08you don't have to tell someone to buck up
02:10You can say, hey, I'm here for you
02:12Who can I help you in any way?
02:14Got into therapy for the first time
02:16My sister was like, you need to see somebody
02:18You're sleeping until 4 o'clock in the afternoon
02:20Something's not right
02:22You need to see somebody
02:24You're not well
02:26I found that with depression
02:28one of the most important things you could realize
02:30is that you're not alone
02:32You're not the first to go through it
02:34Sometimes it happens
02:36You feel like you're alone
02:38We're sort of entering an age where
02:40people who don't talk about this
02:42My father's generation, they never talked about mental health
02:44or what was going on inside
02:46It was just bottle it up
02:48and the younger generations
02:50and hopefully my kids
02:52and their kids
02:54will have more open dialogues about this kind of stuff
02:56That's kind of the way out
02:58I always found like
03:00when you feel like you're not alone
03:02for some reason you can recover a lot faster
03:04you can see the light a little bit faster
03:06but when you feel like
03:08and a lot of people do
03:10they feel like they're completely alone
03:12and that's the worst feeling on earth
03:14Talking about it, to a certain degree
03:16sheds a little sliver of light in there
