00:00Soaking is when you have a man who just sticks it in and essentially lets it soak.
00:10We were raised as orthodox Mormons, married in 1921 as virgins.
00:14I'm Spartacus and you're watching Ex-Mormon TikTok.
00:23And the idea behind it is that if it's just in, but not moving back and forth, or there's
00:29no movement, it's not a sin.
00:32We knew little to nothing about doing it.
00:35I got dumped by a guy who told me that his patriarchal blessing says he would marry a
00:41girl who skis, and I was a snowboarder.
00:45I was given two other gems of advice, never say no to your husband, and only slutty and
00:50worldly women actually like it.
01:10Every person who has reached a certain level of the Mormon church, we use the word endowed,
01:15or have reached a certain level of worthiness, has to wear the Mormon garment, which is the
01:21official term for Mormon magic underwear.
01:24The only time I took my garments off was to shower, to swim, to have sex, and occasionally
01:31to exercise.
01:32Yeah, so I got married in this.
01:36The garments are supposedly a protection from Satan.
01:40I also had to chant in a circle, yeah, covering my face, oh yeah, don't forget.
01:45As Mormons, you heavily focus on the Book of Mormon because we believe that it's the
02:03most corrected, translated book of scripture that there is.
02:24The church employs a lot of thought control and mental and emotional manipulation throughout
02:28all of its teachings.
02:29An example of this would be the insidious teaching of families can be together forever.
02:34On the surface, this seems like a really beautiful teaching about eternal families, until you
02:39realize that it's actually very conditional on the basis of doing everything exactly the
02:43way the Mormon church wants you to do it.
02:56So there's a thing in the Mormon church that's called Trek, which is where all the Mormon
03:01teenagers dress up as pioneers and pull hand carts to remember the ancestors that traveled
03:10to Utah.
03:11So Utah was founded by the Mormons, the majority of people who live in Utah are Mormons.
03:17As some of you may know, the Beehive House is where Brigham Young housed all of his many
03:24wives, 55 to be exact.
03:29People are leaving the Mormon church in droves, many because of church history related issues
03:34such as anachronisms in the Book of Mormon, Joseph Smith being a sexual predator, polygamy,
03:40and many more.
03:41I realized a lot of things that were said in doctrines that I didn't know about like
03:45back in the 1900s that were so racist, so wrong, so sexist.
03:51I spiraled down a rabbit hole of plethora of information where the literality of what
03:57I was taught about the church was not meshing.
04:02So I went through a very long and painful process of deconstructing my faith.
04:17Growing up in the Mormon church, I was taught that this coffee, it's not that it was evil.
04:25So many of my life choices were made for me because I was part of the LDS church.
04:30I feel like a lot of my life was quite literally stolen from me.
04:33I guess I'm a sinner drinking Satan's juice, but at least it's really good.
04:40There's so much grieving that comes from leaving the Mormon church.
04:43You lose your community.
04:45You lose a lot of your friendships.
04:47I'm just so thankful for the community that I found here on TikTok that is just understanding
04:53of what I'm going through.
