00:00A two-year-old girl was allegedly mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs in Delhi's
00:15Tughlaq lane on 24th February 2024.
00:18The child's family members said that she was playing near the Dhobi Ghat's gates in the
00:23evening when five dogs attacked her and dragged her away.
00:33While it was unclear if the child was unattended at the time of the incident, residents of
00:38the area said that the dogs had a history of aggressive behaviour.
01:02A passer-by on a bicycle saw the dogs with the child, her father Rahul Kanojia told the

01:08The child was rushed to Saptachand Hospital, where she was declared dead.
01:16The Delhi police filed a case against a woman who allegedly fed the dogs for causing death
01:22by negligence, but no arrests were made.
01:40According to the Animal Birth Control Rules 2023, the municipal corporation is responsible
01:46for the sterilisation and immunisation of stray dogs.
01:50It also prescribes guidelines to address conflicts between humans and stray dogs without
01:56relocating the dogs from the area.
01:58Parliament data suggested that between 2019 and 2022, there were 160 million cases recorded
02:07of stray dog bites.
02:08News reports said that this led to an increase in revenge attacks and violence against dogs,
02:15feeders and caregivers, along with conflicts between urban residents.
02:20Back in Tughlaq Lane, Delhi's Mayor Shelley O'Groy visited the grieving family.
02:38The mayor also said that she would speak to Chief Minister Arvind K. Trival about compensation
02:44for the family.
