00:00What is the innovation lab?
00:08Italy is at the center of Amazon's innovation and experimentation,
00:12as demonstrated by this Innovation Lab, where we are today.
00:16Here in Vercelli there are only three in the world,
00:20one in Seattle, one in Boston and one here in Italy,
00:23which is a global lab,
00:25where a team of scientists and engineers
00:28from all over the world develops new technologies
00:32in the field of robotics, mechatronics, artificial intelligence,
00:36machine learning, automated packaging machines,
00:40but also new and more sustainable materials and packaging,
00:44which therefore not only improve safety in the world of work,
00:48but also improve our environmental impact.
00:52At Amazon we continue to develop new packaging forms every day.
00:57We recently talked about our collaboration with Novamont
01:01for the development of packaging forms derived from biodegradable forms.
01:06We also announced a few days ago
01:09the development of a new packaged paper bag,
01:13which is therefore 100% recycled and recyclable,
01:16and allows us to ship fragile objects.
01:20But when we talk about packaging philosophy,
01:23our approach is very simple,
01:26if we don't need additional packaging, we just don't use it.
01:30And this is the basis of the program called
01:33Amazon Shipping Without Additional Packaging.
01:37To give you a couple of numbers,
01:39in Europe today, more than half of the shipments we make
01:44no longer take place in the iconic cardboard box,
01:47but take place without packaging or in a paper bag,
01:51and in the past 7 years more than 1 billion products
01:55have been shipped without additional packaging.
