00:00 Autonomous driving
00:04 The Autonomous Driving experiment was born with the aim of developing,
00:09 also in Italy, the polytechnic with all its technological partners,
00:13 this fundamental technology that promises to be revolutionary,
00:18 a very complex technology and it is important that this technology is developed also in Italy.
00:23 I like to emphasize that Autonomous Driving is not and should not be seen
00:28 only as a gadget for the personal car,
00:33 but it will be a technology that will allow us to move towards new models of mobility,
00:39 in particular Autonomous Driving will enable the so-called mobility-to-service,
00:45 that is, the shared use of cars that will radically change the landscape of our cities
00:53 and the way we will live our city of the future.
00:57 We chose the 1000 Miglia because it had two fundamental characteristics,
01:01 or rather three. The first is that it is an extremely varied route,
01:05 so the data we have collected have a huge wealth of situations that are difficult to find
01:11 if you do the experiment, for example, alone in the city.
01:14 The second thing is that we were able to explore very particular situations,
01:19 for example situations where there were many people, many cars around us
01:24 that are very difficult to reproduce in a normal context.
01:28 And then, let's say, the 1000 Miglia is also a very iconic route,
01:32 so we also wanted to value this project, not only from a technical point of view,
01:36 but also from a communication point of view,
01:39 because we want to make the general public understand the revolutionary importance
01:45 that this technology will have.
