The film takes place in an unspecified country where a young author of children’s books (Madeleine Stowe) is arrested and interrogated by a sadistic secret policeman (Alan Rickman) for allegedly embedding anti-government messages in her stories. The author’s book, “Closet Land,” tells the story of a young girl who is locked in a closet as punishment and finds solace in her imagination, where she encounters innocent creatures who comfort her.
