00:00Hello and welcome to this week's transport update for Manchester. I just
00:03want to remind you that our website is constantly being updated with any
00:05information we get so please keep your eye out for changes. Now let's get into
00:09the news for this week shall we? It's quite a big one this week because
00:13Transport for Greater Manchester have emphasised how important planning is for
00:17going around really. It's the final week of November and it's one of the busiest
00:20weeks of the whole year. People are set to be travelling into Manchester for a
00:23host of events that will all overlap between the Christmas markets, both
00:27Manchester clubs playing throughout the week and a whole host of Co-op Live gigs
00:30that will be congestion on the road and massive demand for trams and buses as
00:33well. Feyenoord and Manchester City play later on today with Sleep Token
00:37appearing at the Co-op Live which will mean the roads will be chock-a-block. As a
00:40result double trams are running all day with increased provision heading to the
00:43Etihad Stadium leaving every six minutes from the town centre. Walking is an
00:47option too although around 2,000 Feyenoord fans will be walking to the
00:51stadium from Shampoo Square so there'll be quite a lot moving along the roads as
00:55well. The same will be happening on Thursday although it could be an even
00:58larger march with 6,000 Border Glimpse fans expected. The Christmas markets are
01:02still going strong as well.
01:07They always increase the football in the city so I just want to hammer home, plan
01:10your journeys and set off early. Moving on now, a major redevelopment of Stockport
01:14Roundabout is set to take place soon with £16 million set aside to
01:17replace the railway bridge that Greek Street Roundabout sits on. It was
01:20originally constructed in 1958 and has simply reached the end of its lifespan.
01:24Some work will be taking place between the 25th and 27th of December meaning
01:27that disruption should be minimised anyway because of the Christmas timetable.
01:31Finally, please be careful out on the roads using your phone behind the wheel.
01:34More than 3,200 motorists have been spotted using their phones or
01:37neglecting to wear a seatbelt around Greater Manchester thanks to their
01:40heads-up camera system. It captures images of passing vehicles and they're
01:44processed using AI initially to filter out those who may be breaking the law.
01:47812 separate people were recorded as being distracted by their phones with
01:51tonnes found to not be using their seatbelts properly. That's all for now,
01:55see you again next week.
