00:00Take the right path.
00:01That is the theme of World AIDS Day this year
00:04that is celebrated every December.
00:07Because of that,
00:08we will talk to Doc V. Diaz
00:11from the Department of Health or DOH
00:13and Doc V. Diaz will be back.
00:15Doc V.
00:25Good morning, CAR-SP.
00:28I am Doc V. Diaz from the Department of Health or DOH.
00:32Today, we will find out
00:34what Doc V. Diaz and other experts say
00:37when it comes to various health topics.
00:41On the first day of December,
00:43the whole world celebrates World AIDS Day.
00:48This year's event is a reminder
00:51that initiatives are being encouraged
00:55to end HIV-related stigma.
01:01On this day,
01:03we will show our support
01:06to people living with HIV
01:09and to remind our brothers and sisters
01:12who are still suffering from this disease.
01:15On this occasion,
01:16we will be joined by Sir Ray Mendoza,
01:21the President of People Living with HIV.
01:25Good morning, Sir Ray.
01:27Welcome to SainiDoc and Rise and Shine Philippines.
01:33For our countrymen who are confused
01:38or who may not know yet,
01:40please explain to us
01:42the difference between HIV and AIDS.
01:46Good morning, Doc.
01:48HIV is an infection
01:50that weakens an individual's immune system.
01:54When an individual's immune system weakens,
01:58this is where AIDS comes in.
02:01HIV is a virus
02:03and AIDS is a condition.
02:06What are the risks
02:10that can be placed on a person
02:17who has HIV?
02:21When we talk about HIV,
02:25it is a sexually transmitted infection.
02:30It is an infection with an infected partner
02:36without protection.
02:38It is also a mother-to-child transmission.
02:42It is also a blood-and-blood transmission
02:47of an infected individual.
02:49What are the symptoms of HIV-AIDS
02:54that can be felt immediately
02:57when there is an infection
03:00in the first few weeks or days
03:03that the person has contracted the virus?
03:07To be honest,
03:09there are no signs and symptoms of HIV.
03:13This can only be determined
03:16by an HIV screening or testing.
03:19A person who is not sick
03:22may already have an HIV infection in their body.
03:26That is why an HIV screening is important.
03:31Should someone get tested for HIV-AIDS,
03:35especially if they are sexually active?
03:38What are the risk factors?
03:42When it comes to the risk factors,
03:46STI and HIV prevention is important.
03:51It is A, B, C, D.
03:53A is abstinence.
03:56B is to be mutually faithful.
04:01C is consistent use of condoms.
04:04D is not to use drugs and alcohol
04:09because it can alter our decision-making.
04:13E is education and early detection.
04:17Where can HIV-AIDS be tested?
04:21I have learned that minors under 18 years old
04:25are not allowed to get tested
04:28and need to be quarantined.
04:31For minors under 18 years old,
04:34we have a law, RA 11166,
04:38where minors are given the option
04:42to get tested with no consent.
04:46This is a specific provision
04:49that is age 15 and above.
04:52Guidance of parents is also important.
04:57In HIV screening and testing,
05:00we have a lot of health facilities.
05:03In the local government unit,
05:06we have social hygiene clinics
05:09and wellness centers.
05:12It is said that there is no medicine
05:15for HIV-AIDS,
05:17but there are ways to lower the risk
05:20of HIV-AIDS.
05:24To lower the risk of HIV-AIDS,
05:28the virus should not increase
05:31and there should be no symptoms.
05:34What are the ways to lower the viral load?
05:40That's a good question, Doc.
05:43HIV-positive people, like me,
05:46take antiretroviral therapy,
05:50or ART,
05:53where we take it for life every day
05:57to reduce the spread of the virus
06:02and to have opportunistic infection.
06:06Now, because I always take ART,
06:11I am undetectable
06:15and untransmittable.
06:19How many people in the Philippines
06:23are HIV-positive?
06:25According to our recent data,
06:31in HIV and AIDS,
06:34we call it HAARP,
06:37almost 58 people are diagnosed
06:42with a new case of infection every day.
06:47Ah, 58 people are diagnosed every day,
06:50so we really need to look at education,
06:53especially in our youth,
06:55to lower the rate of AIDS in our country.
06:58Is there an initiative or program
07:01by our organization, PINOY+,
07:04to lower the rate of HIV-AIDS
07:07in our country?
07:09You said 58 per day,
07:11how can we lower it
07:13through PINOY+.
07:15In our organization, PINOY+,
07:18we have a communication
07:21and coordination platform.
07:23This is what we call
07:24the HIV Response Center.
07:26This is like a hotline
07:28where individuals can call
07:32and if they need to talk
07:34to navigate HIV services
07:38and HIV facilities,
07:40we will refer them.
07:42Sir Rain, please give us a message
07:44or a reminder for our KRSP members.
07:49For our viewers,
07:51we are inviting you
07:54since December 1,
07:56World AIDS Day,
07:58the theme is
08:00Take the Right Spot,
08:02where there are activities
08:05that our local government units,
08:08the Department of Health,
08:10and other civil society organizations
08:13can participate.
08:15We also have an opportunity
08:17for HIV screening.
08:19Take that opportunity.
08:21For those who are HIV-positive,
08:24please join us
08:26and participate in this campaign
08:29so that we can improve
08:32the HIV response of our country.
08:35Why is it called Take the Right Spot?
08:37What is the essence of the theme?
08:39Take the Right Spot is
08:42adapted to the UN AIDS theme
08:45this year,
08:47where our response
08:49is based on rights.
08:51Rights.
08:53When we talk about HIV screening,
08:57client's rights,
09:00the right to access
09:03sustainable antiretroviral therapy,
09:06and the right of HIV patients
09:10to be free from judgment
09:14and discrimination
09:16because of their condition.
09:18Take the Right Spot.
09:20Thank you so much for joining us,
09:22Dr. Rain, this morning.
09:24Again, thank you very much
09:26and stay healthy.
09:28With the help of progressives
09:30and advancements in medical research
09:33through the expansion of access to treatment
09:37and prevention
09:39and the broad understanding
09:41of HIV AIDS,
09:43these have been a great help
09:46to make significant progress
09:49in addressing HIV AIDS
09:51around the world.
09:53Again, I am Doc B,
09:55your partner in health.
09:57See you next Wednesday,
09:59KRSP!
