00:00In the middle of the advancement of the use of renewable energy in the country,
00:03the teaching of innovative solar technology curriculum in their school in Central Visayas has already started.
00:09Particularly, it will help the young people in remote areas.
00:14Jesse Atienza of PTV Cebu is in the center of the news.
00:19The engineering student, Matt Hendrick, was happy to give a gift in front of the audience.
00:26He is one of the students of Bantayan Senior High School
00:30who finished their curriculum in the innovative solar technology training
00:37under Electrical and Installation Maintenance in 2021.
00:41This is the maintenance of solar power in remote schools and communities.
00:47It's a big help.
00:49I realized that this is an advanced tool.
00:57That's what I thought.
00:59You need tools to make work easier and better.
01:04According to the Department of Education,
01:06not only the students are being helped by the innovative solar technology training,
01:11but also the remote communities who still have a hard time getting enough electricity supply.
01:18Power supply is also important, especially in times of calamity.
01:22This is a unique track, somehow equips our learners with essential knowledge
01:30and practical expertise in solar energy systems in our current environment.
01:38Even in our community experience, like a series of typhoons or burnouts,
01:46there's no electricity.
01:49According to the leadership of Vivant Foundation Incorporated,
01:52led by the Department of Education,
01:55the launch of the curriculum is a preparation for a new generation of students
02:00to become work-ready professionals and be able to help the development of the country.
02:06We worked with TESDA and DepEd in order to develop this curriculum.
02:14But then we also donate the equipment in order to teach it.
02:22One of the main critiques of K-12 is that it was supposed to make people job-ready,
02:28but you can't be job-ready as an electrician if the skills aren't up to date.
02:34So this is basically updating the skills that are needed.
