00:00you okay you sang beautifully welcome to miss mojo and today we're counting down
00:08our picks for the sitcom scenes that are much sadder in hindsight then I got to
00:12the point where I realized that the characters could say and do things that
00:15I was afraid to do myself and after a little while here I am
00:20number 10 ginger Fox iCarly these are the people who made that video you like
00:26hamster in my pasta now about Wade Collins music video and they're gonna
00:33help you do an amazing performance on the PMAs we haven't agreed to that yet
00:38yes we have Carly Shay and her friends got into quite a few antics in search of
00:43internet fame the episode I fix a pop star puts the gang in proximity to
00:48ginger Fox a washed-up singer who has just had a very public mental breakdown
00:53and is in the middle of a dirty custody battle excuse me ginger
00:57hi your ex-husband dropped off your baby
01:03hi baby someone take this considering when this episode was made it's pretty
01:09clear the character is a thinly veiled parody of Britney Spears it even seems
01:14to lampoon her widely criticized performance at the 2007 VMAs why is the
01:19audience cheering it's yet another instance of casual cruelties towards
01:28Spears a struggle and it looks pretty bad now that we have more information on
01:32the stars conservatorship battle number nine a name less associated with murder
01:37Seinfeld Elaine Bennis dated some duds in her time when the right guy finally
01:43does come along it turns out he has one big red flag what's his name
01:48Joel Joe what Riffkin Riffkin Joel Riffkin yeah it's it's just a
01:56coincidence obviously guess you better keep on his good side he shares his name
02:01Joel Rifkin with a real-life serial killer but Elaine doesn't give up she
02:06decides he needs a new name and she's going to figure out what it is thumbing
02:11through a magazine looking for ideas she decides Joel should take the name
02:14OJ presumably inspired by a very famous football player turned actor of course
02:29in a few short months that name would also become infamous when OJ Simpson is
02:34arrested for a double murder it's a turn of events that would have made a great
02:38Seinfeld episode in itself why is that weird no it's normal you're very normal
02:47number eight Carol's wait growing pains things stayed relatively light-hearted
02:53on the ABC sitcom that launched Kirk Cameron to stardom but in retrospect
02:57it's many many jokes aimed at co-star Tracy Gold's weight are even more
03:01upsetting than they were when they first aired I hope that's a girl with every
03:06ounce of my being well I don't stand a chance
03:09Gold has been public about her experiences with disordered eating these
03:14struggles were at their height while she was on growing pains the producers would
03:17say no it's you know it's brother-sister banter this is the way that they
03:21interact you just don't know that but then it became well now you need to lose
03:25weight so I'm like well no what you were really saying was that this is a
03:28problem and I need to change all at once she was having to endure jokes the
03:32writers were putting in her co-stars as mouths while the producers were
03:36pressuring her to shed pounds she's since recovered but it's a blight on the
03:40squeaky clean shows image how come every time a load gets shifted it plops on me
03:45number seven Frank Dunphy's funeral modern family actor Fred Willard appeared
03:52as Phil Dunphy's somewhat absurd dad Frank 14 times over the show's 11
03:56seasons his last scene in the final season was fitting well you did take over
04:00the family business didn't you keeping life light making it fun for everybody
04:05I learned from the best after spending a day together Phil tells us in his
04:13talking-head interview that it was also the last time he saw his dad he died
04:17soon after the hard part has been figuring out a way to pay tribute to my
04:22dad but something came to me in the garage today a month after the episode
04:26aired real life gave the episode a haunting significance when Willard
04:30passed away himself the Canadian comedy legend left behind five decades of work
04:35and his touching Emmy-nominated guest spot on modern family is a perfect
04:40tribute
04:43you left some big footprints my old man number six none of us really died news
04:50radio the ending of this otherwise fun and irreverent episode turns
04:54unexpectedly dark when you know what happened shortly after it aired we're
04:59sinking yes well more cognac anyone I'll go fetch a fantastical storyline puts
05:10the crew of the WNYX radio station at the site of the Titanic disaster the
05:15episode ends with a speech by star Phil Hartman assuring the audience that none
05:20of them actually died right gang hey where's Dave Oh Dave drowned while we
05:26shot that last scene oh what about Vicky off making a movie in Toronto as it
05:30turned out neither he nor his character would be returning for the next season
05:34tragically a month after the episode aired Hartman was murdered turning his
05:39message into a painfully ironic goodbye so I guess we'll be stuck out here for a
05:44long time a old friend number five the big one Sanford I got the two big ones
05:51one in my head and one in my heart
05:57Fred G Sanford made a habit of pretending to have a heart attack
06:01whenever he wanted sympathy his performer Redd Foxx was particularly
06:05skilled at the recurring bit that's why it was so shocking when his character
06:09actually did have a heart attack on the Sanford and Sons spinoff Sanford
06:14Elizabeth I'm coming to join you this time I kid but the gag would have some
06:23ironic consequences later while on the set of a different show the royal family
06:28Foxx keeled over for a brief moment his colleagues thought he was kidding it
06:33turned out to be a real heart attack that led to his death hours later he was
06:37always doing pride falls and I thought that's what he did everybody thought
06:43that's what he did and he was laying on the floor and I leaned down to him and I
06:48put my hands on him he said get my wife get my wife number four the downside of
06:53fame Mork and Mindy Robin Williams mr. smarty-pants big shot
06:58whoa you forgot your old friend you can't lend me $10,000 for a new car
07:04this goofy Robin Williams sitcom about an alien named Mork and his human
07:08friend Mindy got very meta in a season 3 episode aptly titled Mork meets Robin
07:14Williams the two end up in the dressing room with the real Robin Williams whom
07:18Mindy is hoping to interview I don't know why I can't say no I I guess I want
07:23people to like me I hate myself Williams in character as himself expresses the
07:29pitfalls of fame in a way only he can while his alien doppelganger sits across
07:34from him given what we know of his mental health struggles there's an
07:38unsettling tone to his admission that fame leaves little time alone with his
07:42thoughts and maybe that's by design you know if you learn to say no you probably
07:45have a lot more time to yourself maybe that's the last thing I want number three
07:52pegs pregnancy married with children when series co-star Katie Segal became
07:57pregnant during production of the controversial Fox hit sixties in it was
08:01written into the show what are you guys on vacation rub rub peg Bundy can hardly
08:08contain her happiness as she tells the entire world she's five months along Al
08:13Bundy can't really believe it either he didn't even notice here we go April
08:17week one sold shoes watch TV week two sold shoes watch TV wept week three sold
08:27shoes had a few beers passed out however the pregnancy was written out of the
08:35script when real-life intervened and Segal's pregnancy ended in tragic
08:40circumstances rather than subject her to carrying out the storyline as planned
08:44the show's writers changed course they opted to rewrite the entire storyline as
08:50an elaborate dream of Al's crazy he must be he didn't ask about you number
09:00two only one left the Golden Girls over its seven season run this runaway hit
09:06sitcom starring for showbiz veterans was a celebration of friendship and living
09:10life to the fullest even in old age one particularly sweet moment became eerie
09:16in retrospect is because we know that Lillian's just plain lucky that a lot of
09:20old people do slip through the cracks and I've forgotten and maybe it may not
09:26be too long until we're elderly I say hubs realizing that there may be a
09:32future in which they have to go to a nursing home they make a pact to stick
09:37together to the end and while the intentions are heartwarming it's not a
09:41perfect plan what happens when there's only one of us left it would become
09:48prophetic that Betty White spoke those words after Rue McClanahan's death in
09:532010 white did become the last surviving golden girl I'm not just or the star
09:59there's no way with those girls don't be silly but I'm thrilled to still be a boy

10:32when Cory Monteith passed away suddenly in 2013 it was a life-changing
10:37experience for his colleagues including his fiancee and co-star Lea Michele the
10:42season 5 episode the quarterback is a tribute to him and his character Finn
10:47Hudson and it's hard to watch but one scene that stands out even more now is
10:52cheerleader Santana's tearful tribute to Hudson if I die young bury me in satin
10:59lay me down on a bed of roses she sings a stirring rendition of the band Perry's
11:06if I die young what began as a heartfelt tribute became a bizarre and devastating
11:11premonition in 2020 the performance went viral when actress Naya Rivera died
11:17suddenly in a boating accident at the age of 33
