In the gang war that is shaking Sweden, young people are being recruited as hitmen via encrypted messaging, a method used by criminal organisations to evade the police. Sweden has struggled to rein in a surge in gang shootings and bombings across the country in recent years, linked to score-settling and battles to control the drug market. The number of murder-related cases in Sweden where a suspect is under the age of 15 rose from 31 in the first eight months of 2023 to 102 in the same period this year, according to the Prosecution Authority.

02:40I actually think that the police and the government
02:45have to use the legislation to change it,
02:48and as well, use all kind of treatment
02:54to stop the person that are recruiting the children.
02:58I think it's not enough that you are getting
03:00three years old prison, three years prison
03:03when you are recruiting a child.
03:05It should be much more, because you are using this child
03:09to actually commit a murder.
