00:00FIVOX launched a sourcebook that includes the people who experienced the earthquake and volcano eruption
00:07that is written in local languages to serve as a guide for the possible recovery of those who are facing it.
00:14This is what Rod Lagusa wrote.
00:18To make it easier to understand and to avoid the effects of natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions,
00:26this is the line of FIVOX's DANAS project that was co-founded by the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development,
00:34or PISERD of D.U.A.S.T.I.
00:36This includes 12 sourcebooks or books that contain the lived experiences or experiences of people from the so-called natural disaster
00:46that is written in local languages.
00:47The six main local languages in the country are Tagalog, Ilocano, Kapampangan, Bicolano, Hiligaynon, and Cebuano.
00:56I think it's not hard to understand the hazard.
00:59It's more of, we probably don't understand each other sometimes because we have different backgrounds when it comes to language and culture.
01:06And so it's important that we also realize and recognize that actually they have a way of describing these things
01:14that from our perspective as scientists, it's the same, but our language is different.
01:20And this is the gap or gap that the project is addressing.
01:23From here, the main stakeholders are science communicators such as teachers and disaster risk reduction management officers of local governments.
01:32And for more benefits, it will also be posted on the website of PHEVOX.
01:36Basically, the same phenomenon, or the same phenomenon, for example, how earthquakes are generated, what is produced by earthquakes, could still be the same.
01:45So, the time is changing, but the events and how these events are generated could still be the same.
01:53When people understand the phenomena, then they can prepare for it.
02:00So, basically, the goal is to limit the casualties if there is a volcanic eruption, earthquakes, or tsunamis.
02:09The initial reaction of the people to the project was positive because they understood the language used.
02:16We can see that these sourcebooks are an important way or an important instrument for people to understand the risks that we call in their area.
02:29At the same time, there are other parts of people's knowledge for scientists.
02:34Aside from this, there is a possibility that this could be expanded to other languages and become another natural disaster, such as a typhoon, storm surge, flood, and others.
02:43Rod Laguzed for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
