Why are millions leaving X (formerly known as Twitter) for new rival Blue Sky Social?

00:00A lot of people are deserting X because they feel it's now become a place where anything

00:06goes, racism, sexism, you name it. But of course, this is very much the view of Musk.

00:12He believes that if people want to say it, then he's going to allow it, and with little

00:18or no moderation. So it's certainly seen as a much more toxic environment than would have

00:23been the case up until Elon Musk took over Twitter.

00:27Elon Musk's public support for Donald Trump has been a polarising factor, leading to increased

00:32controversy surrounding his leadership of X. This has contributed to a decline in user

00:38trust and engagement on the platform, as many users and advertisers have expressed concerns

00:44over the platform's political direction and the moderation of harmful content.

00:50For Musk, it's been good business insofar as cuddling up to the President of the United

00:55States. Of course, we wouldn't have believed that he was the one with such a landslide

00:59up until the results came in. So quite clearly, he's in a very influential position. But dare

01:05I say it, the clever commentators believe that because the relationship is between two

01:12very charismatic people, two like, dare I say, narcissistic personalities, then of course

01:18this may eventually end in tears.

01:20Elon Musk's X now has a rival, Blue Sky. It's a site that's very similar to the former

01:26Twitter. Millions of users are joining the platform as a growing number seek an alternative

01:32to the centralised, algorithm-driven platforms.

01:36Well, it's got a long way to go yet. I mean, quite clearly, X, with hundreds of millions

01:43of users, I suspect it will take a lot more than Blue Sky to really undermine it. But

01:48hey, the fact is, though, some people are comparing social media to the Wild West. Anybody

01:54with the means and the wherewithal can set these things up.
