00:00Lawmakers opted to postpone the ongoing hearing on the alleged misuse of confidential funds of the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education to give way to a more pressing concern.
00:11Meanwhile, word got out that an impeachment case was about to be filed today before the lower house, but it did not actually materialize.
00:19Why? PTV's Melalee Moras has the explanation in this report.
00:22The House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability has postponed its hearing scheduled for tomorrow.
00:31According to Committee Chair Joel Chua, they do not want their proceedings to become an excuse for Vice President Sara Duterte to evade the subpoena issued against her by the National Bureau of Investigation over her alleged death threats against the country's top leaders.
00:47Other lawmakers, like Deputy Majority Leader Paulo Ortega and Assistant Majority Leader Jefferson Conghon, agreed with the panel's decision.
00:55We believe that this issue in the NBI is very important and it concerns national security.
01:06That is why we decided to postpone the committee hearing.
01:13Don't get the committee wrong. These are both equally important proceedings.
01:21But it is also very important that the questions and investigations of the NBI will be answered because this is not a joke. These are grave threats.
01:36For now, the committee still has to decide when to hold their next hearing and what happens to the contempt and arrest order issued against OVP Chief of Staff Zolaica Lopez, which is set to expire on Saturday.
01:47Meanwhile, there are strong rumors that an impeachment complaint against the vice president will supposedly be filed in the House of Representatives.
01:55There was even a text message that circulated that it was allegedly stopped by the president.
02:00But the lawmakers emphasized having no such information and reiterated their focus on their work, not impeachment.
02:07I don't know about that. I don't receive any communication from the House leadership.
02:15If impeachment is being discussed, all people have the right to file an impeachment.
02:22But we, in the administration, have not yet discussed impeachment because we are very concerned, especially with our work in Congress.
