00:00If you're planning on buying a live Christmas tree this year, you might want to start your
00:04search soon.
00:05A nationwide shortage is expected, with several factors creating historic challenges for tree
00:10growers.
00:11Severe weather across the U.S. has taken a toll, including a drought in the Northeast
00:15and devastating floods in North Carolina, the second largest supplier of Christmas trees
00:20in the country.
00:21The region, known for its frasier firs, was particularly hard hit by Hurricane Helene,
00:26which caused widespread flooding, destroyed roads and wiped out thousands of trees.
00:31Experts say that while there should still be enough trees available for purchase, buyers
00:36might need to adjust their expectations.
00:38Some lots are even offering Charlie Brown trees as a show of support for growers.
00:43The holiday rush for live trees begins this weekend, and though the shortage is being
00:47felt nationwide, many growers are optimistic about the future.
