00:02April 15th, 2019.
00:04Paris' Notre-Dame Cathedral in flames.
00:07Parisians and tourists watch the scene in shock.
00:10The fire was able to spread through the entire building,
00:13even toppling its famous spire,
00:16sending it crashing into the cathedral's roof.
00:19The next day, investigators started taking samples
00:22to test from underneath the rubble.
00:24Quickly, criminal motives were ruled out.
00:27Instead, the cause of the fire was suspected
00:29to be related to restoration work
00:31being done on the cathedral,
00:33a worker not properly extinguishing a cigarette butt.
00:36After investigating this theory, though,
00:38it was determined to be wrong.
00:41During the restoration process,
00:42several temporary electrical devices were being used,
00:45and this is believed to be a more likely cause.
00:48The electrical trail,
00:52because it was discovered that in Notre-Dame's towers,
00:54for the bells in the spire,
00:56there were all these electrical systems
00:58that were strictly banned in this old structure
01:01from the Middle Ages.
01:04Five and a half years after the fire,
01:06the investigation is still underway,
01:08and no theory has been definitively ruled out.
